Mayfield Park, Bristol
Mayfield Park is a residential area in East Bristol, with a large adjoining park known as the Ridgeway Rd Playing Fields. The area is located on the outskirts of the outer urban area of Fishponds and consists mainly of four roads: Mayfield Park, Mayfield Park North, Mayfield Park South and Mayfield Avenue. It is also near the main road of Berkeley Road and the outer urban area with the name of Speedwell, and adjacent to Chester Park. The area has a population of 1,730 (est). History of the area Originally part of the Royal Forest of Kingswood, the area around Mayfield Park started to be cleared for agriculture from the 13th century. Mayfield Park Estate
Moordown is a suburb of Bournemouth, situated in the northern part of the borough. It was incorporated into the borough of Bournemouth in 1901, having previously been part of the Christchurch rural district. Antiquity Moordown, according to Michael Stead, "may well be the longest continually settled area of Bournemouth". Evidence of its antiquity was unearthed in 1873, when 97 cremation urns, redolent of the Middle Bronze Age, were exhumed in the Redbreast Hill area; unfortunately most of them "crumbled to atoms" on being exposed to the air. Another, equally erudite historian has written of the "superior rusticated ware" from the Late Bronze Age (''c''. 800-500 BC), unearthed when Nursery Road was being built up in 1929. Mayfield Park is a public park in Manchester city centre, England, covering an area of . The city centre's first new public park in more than 100 years, it was officially opened on 22 September 2022 by Bev Craig, the Leader of Manchester City Council. Toponymy The park takes its name from Manchester Mayfield, a former railway station and industrial site on the south side of Fairfield Street next to Manchester Piccadilly station. History The area had been mainly derelict since the 1980s, but is being redeveloped as part of a wider regeneration scheme that includes plans for 1,500 new homes, retail, leisure and office space. Mayfield Park is a recreational area straddling Woolston and Weston in Southampton, England. The stream that runs through the park is the boundary between the two districts of modern Southampton. The park is owned and maintained by Southampton City Council. It was previously part of the Chamberlayne family's ''Weston Grove'' estate. Much of the rest of the ''Weston Grove'' estate has been used to develop the post-war suburb of Weston. Mayfield Park survives because it was split from the ''Weston Grove'' estate in the nineteenth century, becoming the ''Mayfield Estate''. History 18th century: wood-working mill The park straddles a stream which runs from nearby Miller's Pond, through a valley within the park, naturally draining the higher ground of the Hampshire Basin on the East of Southampton into Southampton Water.
