Maurice C. Gregory
Maurice Clinton Gregory (October 9, 1881 – October 27, 1949) was a decorated mustang officer of the United States Marine Corps with the rank of brigadier general. He spent his career mostly in Quartermaster Department of the Marine Corps beginning as private in the field assignments, ultimately reaching the general's rank and command of Depot of Supplies, Philadelphia during World War II. Early career Gregory was born on October 9, 1881, in Cresco, Iowa, and, following high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps as a private on February 23, 1905. He attended the boot camp and subsequently served as enlisted man for twelve years. Gregory reached the rank of Quartermaster's Clerk (equivalent to Marine Gunner's rank) and received together four Marine Corps Good Conduct Medals for exemplary behavior and efficiency during his enlisted service. Cresco is a city in Howard County, Iowa, United States. The population was 3,888 in the 2020 census, a decline from 3,905 in 2000 census. It is the county seat of Howard County. Seth Williams (January 19, 1880 – July 29, 1963) was an officer of the United States Marine Corps with the rank of major general, who served at Headquarters Marine Corps as Quartermaster General of the United States Marine Corps during the years 1937–1944. Williams is most noted for his efforts during the construction of Marine Barracks, Quantico following the United States entry into World War I and for the construction of several military training centers at the beginning of World War II: Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; Camp Pendleton, California and Camp Elliott. 1931 Nicaragua Earthquake
The 1931 Nicaragua earthquake devastated Nicaragua's capital city Managua on 31 March. It had a moment magnitude of 6.1 and a maximum MSK intensity of VI (''Strong''). Between 1,000 and 2,450 people were killed. A major fire started and destroyed thousands of structures, burning into the next day. At least 45,000 were left homeless and losses of $35 million were recorded. Earthquake and aftermath The earthquake hit Managua at 10:10 or 10:19 AM on 31 March, and caused cracks to spread throughout the western side of the city. East Managua was largely untouched. The main quake's duration was around 5 to 6 seconds. The quake was largely centered in Managua. Granada, Nicaragua, was unaffected. National Guard (Nicaragua)
The National Guard ( es, link=no, Guardia Nacional, otherwise known as ) was a militia and a gendarmerie created in 1925 during the occupation of Nicaragua by the United States. It became notorious for human rights abuses and corruption under the regime of the Somoza family (1936–1979). The National Guard was disbanded when the Sandinistas came to power in 1979. Logan Feland
Major General Logan Feland (18 August 1869 – 17 July 1936) was a United States Marine Corps general who last served as commanding general of the Department of the Pacific. Feland served during the Spanish–American War (3rd Kentucky Volunteer Infantry), the occupation of Veracruz (1914) and in World War I, where he was in command of all troops during the Battle of Belleau Wood. Biography Logan Feland was born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, on August 18, 1869. He studied at Hopkinsville High School and South Kentucky College. Marine Corps Recruit Depot (commonly referred to as MCRD) San Diego is a United States Marine Corps military installation in San Diego, California.
