Matunga is a former constituency of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. It was abolished when the constituency boundaries were re-arranged through 2008 delimitation bill. Maharashtra Legislative Assembly
The Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha or the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly is the lower house of the legislature of the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is situated in the Nariman Point area of South Mumbai in the capital Mumbai. Presently, 288 members of the Legislative Assembly are directly elected from the single-seat constituencies. The members of the upper house, the Maharashtra Vidhan Parishad (the legislative council) are indirectly elected through an electoral college. Sessions The budget session and the monsoon session are convened in Mumbai whereas the winter session is convened in the auxiliary capital Nagpur. Indian National Congress

Janata Party
The Janata Party ( JP, lit. ''People's Party'') was a political party that was founded as an amalgam of Indian political parties opposed to the Emergency that was imposed between 1975 and 1977 by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi of the Indian National Congress. In the 1977 general election, the party defeated the Congress and Janata leader Morarji Desai became the first non-Congress prime minister in independent modern India's history. Raj Narain, a socialist leader, had filed a legal writ alleging electoral malpractice against Indira Gandhi in 1971. On 12 June 1975, Allahabad High Court found her guilty of using corrupt electoral practices in her 1971 election victory over Narain in the Rae Bareli constituency. She was barred from contesting any election for the next six years. Chandrakanta Goyal
Chandrakanta Goyal (1932 – 6 June 2020) was an Indian politician and a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. She was a member of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from Matunga constituency three times, winning in 1990, 1995, and 1999. She was married to Ved Prakash Goyal (1926–2008) who was a minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee's government.
