Matis
The Matis people (also called Matsë in their own native language) are an indigenous people of Brazil. The Matis are commonly named as the Jaguar people by tourists and filmmakers, but they do not like to be called like this. They live in three separate communities with total population of roughly 340. They live in the far west of Brazil, in the Vale do Javari Indigenous Territory, an area covering . They practice hunting, fishing, collecting (also called foraging) and agriculture. Now, they also receive money from their work as teacher, health assistance, surveillance of the territory when working for FUNAI, for example, and the elders receive pension from the government (inscribed as retired farmers, as other traditional communities also have the right for in Brazil). Matis Language
Matis is a language spoken by the indigenous Matis people in the state of Amazonas in Brazil. History The Fundação Nacional do Índio (Funai) was a key player in establishing first contact with the Matis community. After the construction of a major highway through the region, Funai began receiving reports of uncontacted peoples in the region. The Matis before this point in time were isolated and removed from any outside, non-indigenous contact and this highway acted as a path to resources, which would later assist the Matis, as well as other indigenous peoples. Funai went on to establish the Ituí Indigenous Attraction Post (IAP) on the bank of the Ituí river in 1974. Reports on the first contact with the Matis people conflict, but this event likely happened in 1975 or 1976. Mati Tribe
Mat ( sq-definite, Mati) is region in north-central Albania. It takes its name from the Mat River located in the region. The inhabitants are mostly Muslim, traditionally composed of six bajraks: Burrel, Klos, Lis, Lukan, Prell and Xibër. According to a 1918 census carried out by the Austro-Hungarians, Mat at the time consisted of 3,986 households and 23,643 total individuals. Etymology The river name was written in Latin as "Mathis" by the 4th/5th century writer Vibius Sequester and before that in Ancient Greek as "Mάτη" (''Máti''). Clark Arvo Matis (born July 1, 1946) is a retired American cross-country skier. He competed in the 30 km event at the 1972 Winter Olympics and finished 53rd. Matis' mother was the first female member of the University of Colorado ski team, and his father, Arvo Matis, headed the Durango Ski Club. Francisco Javier Matís
Francisco Javier Matís (1763 Guaduas – 5 November 1851 Bogotá) Francisco Javier Matiz, was a Neogranadine painter and botanical illustrator noted for his work during the Royal Botanical Expedition to New Granada (1783–1814). He was the third child of Bartolomé Matís and Maria Luisa Mahecha. The exact date of his birth is unknown. In 1781, aged 18, the young Matís traveled to Santa Fe de Bogotá and worked as a painter for the Urquinaona family, who had strong ties to the Expedition. He worked for the Expedition for twenty-seven years, from December 1783 until 1812 when it was officially terminated. Răzvan Bogdan Matiș (born 25 January 2001) is a Romanian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Liga II club Chindia Târgoviște.
