Mathe Pedi Mou Gramata
''Learn How to Read and Write, Son'' ( el, Μάθε παιδί μου γράμματα, translit=Mathe paidi mou grammata, italic=yes) is a 1981 Greek comedy film directed by Thodoros Maragos and starring Vasilis Diamantopoulos, Nikos Kalogeropoulos, Kostas Tsakonas and Anna Mantzourani. Plot The story is set in a mountain village in Arcadia (the movie was filmed in Stemnitsa, Dimitsana and the surrounding areas) shortly after the Metapolitefsi (the fall of the military junta of 1967–74). The unveiling of a monument to those who died during the Occupation (World War II) stirs up the village, because the name of a communist partisan who was killed was omitted. Periklis (V. Diamantopoulos), a conservative high school teacher, comes to clash with his wife and his two sons over whether Chrysanthi and her family have a right to put a wreath in memory of the partisan. Thodoros Maragos or (alternative form in Latin alphabet) Marangos ( el, Θόδωρος Μαραγκός; born in Filiatra in 1944) is a Greek film director. His work spans film, TV and documentaries. He is best known for his film ''Learn How to Read and Write, Son'' (in Greek: Μάθε παιδί μου γράμματα), a satire on fascism and one of the best anti-Junta films of all time. He has won four awards in the 14th Thessaloniki Film Festival (September 24–30, 1973) for his movie ''Get on Your Mark'' (original title in Greek: Λάβετε θέσεις). The Metapolitefsi ( el, Μεταπολίτευση, , " regime change") was a period in modern Greek history from the fall of the Ioaniddes military junta of 1973–74 to the transition period shortly after the 1974 legislative elections. The metapolitefsi was ignited by the liberalisation plan of military dictator Georgios Papadopoulos, which was opposed by prominent politicians such as Panagiotis Kanellopoulos and Stephanos Stephanopoulos, and halted by the massive Athens Polytechnic uprising against the military junta. Yorgos Vrassivanopoulos ( el, Γιώργος Βρασιβανόπουλος; January 1, 1924 – February 10, 1998) was a Greek actor. He was born in Athens on New Year's Day, 1924 and made his first appearance in the theatrical play '' Egmont'' by Goethe in 1951, in the theatrical company of Dimitris Rontiris. He also worked as a translator in dialogs from foreign movies. The Thessaloniki Film Festival started in 1960 and at the beginning comprised exclusively Greek films. The first years (1960-1965) the festival was called "Week of Greek Cinema". From 1965 to 1991 the festival was called Festival of Greek Cinema and from 1992 became an international film festival as the Thessaloniki International Film Festival. Dimitsana ( el, Δημητσάνα) is a mountain village and a former municipality in Arcadia, Peloponnese, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Gortynia, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 110.759 km2. Dimitsana is built on the ruins of the ancient town Teuthis. The population of the village is 342 (2011 census), while it was 611 in 2001. It has been registered as a traditional settlement. Vasilis Diamantopoulos ( el, Βασίλης Διαμαντόπουλος; 15 November 1920 – 5 May 1999) was a Greek actor. He was one of the founders of the Modern Theater and was the first actor to appear live on Greek television in the single act play "Him and his pants" of Iakovos Kambanellis in 1966. His most characteristic role was that of the austere professor in Giannis Dalianidis' movie ''Law 4000'' and later in shorts including '' Ekmek Ice Cream'' in private TV.
