Addison Emery Verrill
Addison Emery Verrill (February 9, 1839 – December 10, 1926) was an American invertebrate zoologist, museum curator and university professor. Life Verrill was born on February 9, 1839 in Greenwood, Maine, the son of George Washington Verrill and Lucy (Hillborn) Verrill. As a boy he showed an early interest in natural history, building collections of rocks and minerals, plants, shells, insects and other animals. When he moved with his family to Norway, Maine at age fourteen he attended secondary school at the Norway Liberal Institute. Verrill started college in 1859 at Harvard University and studied under Louis Agassiz. He graduated in 1862 with a B.A. He went on scientific collecting trips with Alpheus Hyatt and Nathaniel Shaler in the summer of 1860 to Trenton Point, Maine and Mount Desert Island and in the summer of 1861 to Anticosti Island and Labrador. Louis Marie Adolphe Olivier Édouard Joubin (27 February 1861 in Épinal – 24 April 1935 in Paris) was a professor at the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle in Paris. He published works on nemerteans, chaetognatha, cephalopods, and other molluscs. Bigfin Squid
Bigfin squids are a group of rarely seen cephalopods with a distinctive morphology. They are placed in the genus ''Magnapinna'' and family Magnapinnidae. Although the family is known only from larval, paralarval, and juvenile specimens, some authorities believe adult specimens have also been seen. Several videos have been taken of animals nicknamed the "long-arm squid", which appear to have a similar morphology. Since none of the seemingly adult specimens has ever been captured or sampled, it remains uncertain if they are of the same genus or only relatives. The arms and tentacles of the squid are both extremely long and believed to be long. These appendages are held perpendicular to the body, creating "elbows." ''Magnapinna talismani'' is a species of bigfin squid known only from a single damaged specimen. It is characterised by small white nodules present on the ventral surface of its fins. Description The holotype of ''M. talismani'' is a specimen of 61 mm mantle length (ML) collected in the northern Atlantic Ocean, south of the Azores, at . It was caught by an open bottom trawl at a depth of up to 3175 m. The capture location of this specimen is very near to that of the as-yet undescribed ''Magnapinna'' sp. B.
