Massachusetts House of Representatives' 5th Barnstable district in the United States is one of 160 legislative districts included in the lower house of the Massachusetts General Court. It covers parts of Barnstable County and Plymouth County. Since 2021, Steven Xiarhos of the Republican Party has represented the district. Massachusetts Senate's Plymouth and Barnstable district in the United States is one of 40 legislative districts of the Massachusetts Senate. It covers 33.3% of Barnstable County and 17.6% of Plymouth County population. Democrat Susan Moran of Falmouth has represented the district since May 2020, after a special election was called when Republican Vinny deMacedo of Plymouth resigned in November 2019. The American Community Survey (ACS) is a demographics survey program conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau. The following is a list of former districts of the Massachusetts House of Representatives in the United States. Legislative districts for elected representation in the Massachusetts House of Representatives are apportioned based on census information. Apportionment has occurred generally every ten years: in 1857, 1866, 1876, 1886, 1896, 1906, 1916, 1926, 1939, 1947,...2011. There were no districts before 1857. Representatives were elected from each town and city. The number of House members "fluctuated from a low of 131 members in 1782 to a high of 748 members in 1812." Starting in 1857, 240 House districts were "drawn by county boards on the basis of statutory assignment of seats to each county." A 1974 referendum, supported by the League of Women Voters, reduced the number of seats from 240 to 160. It has a 40-member upper house (Massachusetts Senate) and a 160-member lower house (Massachusetts House of Representatives). WBUR-FM (90.9 FM) is a public radio station located in Boston, Massachusetts, owned by Boston University. Randy Hunt (born August 25, 1957) is an American politician and accountant who served as a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 2011 to 2021, representing the 5th Barnstable district. He had previously served as a member of the Sandwich Board of Selectmen from 2003 to 2010. Early life and education Hunt was born in El Paso, Texas. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Texas at El Paso. Career He entered the firm of Peat Marwick Mitchell, a predecessor of KPMG. He was promoted to senior manager in the audit practice and spent two years in the firm's executive office in New York City. In 1989, he left KPMG to become a plant controller with a publicly-traded company that manufactures infrared optical sensors and emitters used in office machinery and automobiles. Jeffrey Davis Perry (born January 8, 1964) is a former member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives who represented the 5th Barnstable District from 2003-2011. He was the Republican Party nominee for United States Congress in Massachusetts's 10th congressional district in the 2010 election, losing to Democrat Bill Keating. Education and early career Perry has an associate's degree (A.A.) from Bristol Community College, and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in sociology from Curry College. He completed an executive management program at the Law Enforcement Executive Center at Babson College, graduated from the Plymouth Regional Police Academy, and served for eight years as a Wareham police officer.
