The Massachusetts House of Representatives 2nd Hampshire District or "2nd Hampshire" is an electoral district for the Massachusetts House of Representatives. It consists of the towns of South Hadley, Easthampton, Hadley and precinct 2 of Granby. Democrat Dan Carey of Easthampton has represented the district since 2019. The current district geographic boundary overlaps with those of the Massachusetts Senate's 1st Hampden and Hampshire district, 2nd Hampden and Hampshire district, and Hampshire, Franklin and Worcester district. District History The district has existed in its current form since 2011, but has existed in name since at least 1970. Middlefield is a town in Hampshire County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 385 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Springfield, Massachusetts Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Middlefield was first settled in 1780 and was officially incorporated in 1783. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , of which is land and 0.04% is water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 542 people, 213 households, and 161 families residing in the town. The population density was 22.4 people per square mile (8.7/km). There were 263 housing units at an average density of 10.9 per square mile (4.2/km). The racial makeup of the town was 98.89% White, 0.18% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.18% from other races, and 0.55% from two or more races. Berkshire, Hampshire, Franklin, and Hampden is a district of the Massachusetts Senate since 2013. It covers an area of 1,529.5 square miles across the expanse of Berkshire, Hampshire, Hampden and Franklin counties. Democrat Adam Hinds of Pittsfield has represented the district since 2017. Hinds is running unopposed for re-election in the 2020 Massachusetts general election. Shannon Patricia Elizabeth O'Brien (born April 30, 1959) is an American politician and attorney who served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1987 through 1993, in the Massachusetts Senate from 1993 through 1995, and was the Massachusetts state treasurer from 1999 through 2003.
