Massachusetts House Of Representatives' 17th Suffolk District
Massachusetts House of Representatives' 17th Suffolk district in the United States is one of 160 legislative districts included in the lower house of the Massachusetts General Court. It covers part of the city of Boston in Suffolk County. Since 1995, Kevin G. Honan of the Democratic Party has represented the district. The current district geographic boundary overlaps with those of the Massachusetts Senate's Middlesex and Suffolk district and 2nd Suffolk and Middlesex district. The American Community Survey (ACS) is a demographics survey program conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau. It regularly gathers information previously contained only in the long form of the decennial census, such as ancestry, citizenship, educational attainment, income, language proficiency, migration, disability, employment, and housing characteristics. Legislative districts for elected representation in the Massachusetts House of Representatives are apportioned based on census information. Apportionment has occurred generally every ten years: in 1857, 1866, 1876, 1886, 1896, 1906, 1916, 1926, 1939, 1947,...2011. There were no districts before 1857. Kevin Honan
Kevin G. Honan is an American state legislator who has represented the 17th Suffolk district in the Massachusetts House of Representatives since 1987. He is the House's longest continuously serving legislator. He is a resident of the Brighton neighborhood of Boston and a member of the Democratic Party. Education Honan graduated from Boston College with a bachelor's degree in political science and government in 1981. Since joining the legislature in 1987, he has received a master's degree in management sciences from Lesley College in 1991 and a Master of Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government in 1999. Michael Paul Feeney
Michael Paul Feeney (March 26, 1907 – August 13, 1991) was an American politician who served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1939 to 1981. Feeney began his political career in 1938. He was elected to Massachusetts House of Representatives from a field of 38 candidates. From 1944 to 1945 he also served on the Boston City Council. In 1945 he was a candidate for Mayor of Boston. He finished in last place with 1% of the vote behind James Michael Curley, John E. Kerrigan, William Arthur Reilly, John J. Sawtelle, and Joseph Lee. In 1952, Feeney became a member of the House Ways and Means Committee. He served as its chairman from 1959 to 1962, when he was removed by speaker John F. Thompson following a dispute between the two over a railroad tax subsidy. Feeney challenged Thompson for speaker in 1963.
