Massachusetts's 13th congressional district is an obsolete district. It was also for a short time in the early 19th century a Massachusetts District of Maine. It was eliminated in 1963 after the 1960 U.S. Census. Its last location was in eastern Massachusetts. Its last Congressman was James A. Massachusetts Route 13
Route 13 is a north–south state highway in the north-central region of the U.S. state of Massachusetts. Its southern terminus is at Route 12 in Leominster and its northern terminus is a continuation as New Hampshire Route 13 near Brookline, New Hampshire. Route description Route 13 begins at Route 12 north of downtown Leominster, where that route turns from Main Street to North Main Street. Route 13 continues along Main Street, crossing Route 2 near the Mall at Whitney Field, before crossing the north branch of the Nashua River and the Fitchburg Line of the MBTA Commuter Rail before turning northward towards the village of Whalom and the town of Lunenburg. The Democratic-Republican Party, known at the time as the Republican Party and also referred to as the Jeffersonian Republican Party among other names, was an American political party founded by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison in the early 1790s that championed republicanism, agrarianism, political equality, and expansionism. William Eustis
William Eustis (June 10, 1753 – February 6, 1825) was an early American physician, politician, and statesman from Massachusetts. Trained in medicine, he served as a military surgeon during the American Revolutionary War, notably at the Battle of Bunker Hill. He resumed medical practice after the war, but soon entered politics. After several terms in the state legislature, Eustis won election to the United States Congress in 1800, serving as a moderate Democratic-Republican. He briefly returned to state politics after losing reelection in 1804, and was chosen to be Secretary of War in 1809 by President James Madison. Due in part to his inexperience at managing the army and a lack of preparedness, the military failures in the early months of the War of 1812 were laid on his shoulders, leading to his resignation. Edward Dowse
Edward Dowse (October 22, 1756 – September 3, 1828) was a U.S. Representative from Massachusetts. Born in Charlestown in the Province of Massachusetts Bay, Dowse moved to Dedham in March 1798 to escape the yellow fever epidemic in Boston. He purchased five acres of land on both sides of the Middle Post Road, today known as High Street. He lived in an already existing house at first, and then built a home on the land in 1804. His brother-in-law was Samuel Nicholson, the first captain of . During his 1817 tour of the country, President James Monroe visited Dedham and stayed in Dowse's home. After the Revolution, he became a shipmaster and engaged in the East Indian and China carrying trade. Dowse was elected as a Democratic-Republican to the Sixteenth Congress and served from March 4, 1819, until May 26, 1820, when he resigned.
