Gus Mackay
Angus James Mackay (born 13 June 1967) is a Zimbabwean sports administrator. He is a former chief executive of Cricket Scotland. Cricket career Gus Mackay played for Zimbabwe Colts in England in 1984 and then Zimbabwe Schools. In 1986 he spent a year at Essex County Cricket Club before being sidelined with a serious ankle injury. He then joined English Midlands club sides Barnt Green and West Bromwich. He made his first-class debut in 1998–99 at the age of 31. Mackay won a call-up to the Zimbabwe one-day side which toured Australia and New Zealand in 2000–01. He played three ODIs for Zimbabwe in 2001 as a seam bowler. He was general manager of Mashonaland whilst working as a banker, and in 2006 he was appointed as chief executive at Sussex. David Mutendera
David Travolta Mutendera (born 25 January 1979) is a former Zimbabwean international cricketer who played one Test match and nine One Day Internationals. He now teaches cricket and football at St John’s College in Harare. A tall seam bowler, with a height of almost two metres, he got bounce off the pitch and had the off cutter as his stock ball. He had little success at international level, however, as his Test debut saw him bowl 14 overs against New Zealand - coming on as third change in the first innings and not bowling at all in the second. Batting at number eleven, he made 10 and 0 in Zimbabwe's seven-wicket loss. Mark Vermeulen
Mark Andrew Vermeulen (born 2 March 1979) is a former Zimbabwean cricketer, who played Test matches and One Day Internationals. He is a right-handed opening batsman and occasional off spin bowler. Domestic career He was former captain of Zimbabwe Under-19 team. Despite his troubles Vermeulen had an excellent 2004–05 season in which he averaged 43.60 in domestic cricket but the rise in his numbers coincided with economic decline and political turmoil and he did not immediately have the opportunity to see if that could translate on the cricket field. He spent time at the Matabeleland Tuskers, Mid West Rhinos, Mountaineers and Southern Rocks and completed a full house of playing for all the teams in the country when he returned to the Mash Eagles in his home-town of Harare. Brighton Watambwa
Brighton Tonderai Watambwa (born 9 June 1977) is a Zimbabwean cricketer who in 2014 captained the Belgium national cricket team. A right-arm fast-medium bowler, Watambwa played six Tests for Zimbabwe between April 2001 and March 2002, taking 14 wickets. Domestically, he alternated between playing for Mashonaland and Mashonaland A. Following a contract dispute with the Zimbabwe Cricket Union, Watambwa emigrated to the USA in the autumn of 2002. Trevor Gripper
Trevor Raymond Gripper (born 28 December 1975) is a former Zimbabwean cricketer. He was born in 1975 in Salisbury - now Harare. Gripper was a somewhat solid opening batsman, who once spent four hours 23 minutes inching his way to 28 in a match against England A. However, his off-spin bowling has also proved useful, and in first-class cricket he may fairly be considered an all-rounder, with his batting average above 33 and his bowling average below 32. Gripper made his first-class debut for a Matabeleland Invitation XI during Worcestershire's 1996/97 tour of Zimbabwe, by scoring 45. However, he did not play another match at that level until the aforementioned game against England A in February 1999. Trevor Penney
Trevor Lionel Penney (born 12 June 1968 in Salisbury, Rhodesia) is a former Zimbabwean cricketer who played for Warwickshire County Cricket Club, noted particularly for his fielding. He was a substitute fielder for England during the 2005 Ashes series. He had a career average of almost 40 runs per innings. Penney later became an assistant coach of the West Indies cricket team. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all.
