Martin Thomas, Baron Thomas Of Gresford
Donald Martin Thomas, Baron Thomas of Gresford, (born 13 March 1937) is a British Liberal Democrat politician. Born the son of a Llangollen policeman, he was educated at Grove Park Grammar School, Wrexham, and at Peterhouse, Cambridge, he graduated with an LLB in Law and an MA in Classics. He practised as a solicitor in Wrexham from 1961 to 1966 before becoming a lecturer in law. He was called to the bar at Gray's Inn in 1967, and was appointed a QC in 1979. He became a deputy circuit judge in 1974, a Crown Court Recorder in 1976, and a Deputy High Court judge in 1995. Having been appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 1982 Birthday Honours, Thomas was created a Life Peer as Baron Thomas of Gresford, of Gresford in the County Borough of Wrexham on 30 September 1996, whereupon he took the Liberal Democrat Whip. Martin Thomas (cricketer)
Martin David Thomas (born 8 June 1952) is a former English cricketer. Thomas was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm off break. He was born in Altrincham, Cheshire. Thomas made his debut for Oxfordshire in the 1978 Minor Counties Championship against Buckinghamshire. Thomas played Minor counties cricket for Oxfordshire from 1978 to 1985, which included 27 Minor Counties Championship matches He made his List A debut against Warwickshire in the 1980 Gillette Cup. In this match he scored 15 runs before being dismissed by Dilip Doshi. He played a further List A match against Glamorgan in the 1981 NatWest Trophy. In his second match, he scored 7 runs before being dismissed by Malcolm Nash. Martin Richard Thomas (born 28 November 1959) is a former footballer who made more than 500 appearances in the Football League as a goalkeeper and represented Wales at senior international level. After retiring as a player he became a coach, and has worked for various clubs and for the English Football Association. Playing career Born in Senghenydd, Glamorgan, Thomas moved to England to join Bristol Rovers as a youth player. He made his début for their first team on 3 January 1977, as a substitute for Jim Eadie in the away match at Charlton Athletic. Thomas turned professional in September of that year, and went on to become Rovers' first-choice goalkeeper. He faced competition for his jersey with England youth goalkeeper Phil Kite before going on loan to three clubs during 1982–83, first Cardiff City, then Tottenham Hotspur and Southend United. Martin Thomas (historian)
Professor Martin Thomas (born 1964) is a British historian. Thomas did both his undergraduate and doctoral studies at Oxford University, completing his D.Phil. in 1991. He joined the history department at the University of the West of England, Bristol, in 1992 before leaving to take up a post at the History Department of Exeter University in 2003. He is the director of the Centre for the Study of War, State and Society. He is considered one of the leading specialists on French colonial history and, in November 2002, was awarded a £50,000 prize from the Leverhulme Trust for the outstanding quality of his research. He has published five monographs on aspects of French foreign and colonial policy, Franco-British relations, colonial security services and the colonial state. He won two medals in the C1 team event at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships with a gold in 2021 and a silver in 2017. Martyn Thomas CBE FREng FIET FRSA (born 1948) is a British independent consultant and software engineer. Overview Martyn Thomas founded the software engineering company Praxis in 1983, based in Bath, southern England. He has a special interest in safety-critical systems and other high integrity applications. He has acted as an expert witness involving complex software engineering issues. Thomas was born in Salisbury, southern England. He studied biochemistry at University College London, graduating in 1969, when he started working in the field of computing. Between 1969 and 1983, he was employed at universities in London and the Netherlands, at STC working on telecommunications software, and at the South West Universities Regional Computer Centre in Bath. Martyn Thomas (rugby Player)
Martyn Thomas (born 24 April 1987) is a Welsh rugby union player. He plays in the full back position. He went to UWIC from 2005 to 2008. He studied Sports Development during this period before joining the Scarlets regional team and subsequently Newport Gwent Dragons. Thomas signed an extended contract with Newport Gwent Dragons in January 2010. Thomas joined Gloucester Rugby on a one-year contract, option for a further season, starting at the 2012/13 season. Following a stint in France, Thomas signed for Coventry. He made his debut on the bench for Coventry's game against Richmond on 31 January as they look to attain promotion back into the RFU Championship. On 27 February 2015, Thomas made his return to the Aviva Premiership as he signed for Wasps until the end of the 2014–15 season.
