Martin Smith (film Maker)
Martin Smith is a film maker who wrote and directed the 2006 Scottish BAFTA Award winning short Tracks and the BAFTA winning series Armchair Detectives. He has also directed music videos for acts such as Arab Strap, The Delgados and King Creosote amongst others. His first short film Accidents featured Kate Dickie (Red Road). Filmography 'Tracks' (2006) was commissioned by the UK Film Council, Scottish Screen, and GMAC for the DigiCult scheme and made with producer Karen M Smyth of La Belle Allee Productions. It has won the BAFTA Scotland Award for Best Short Film, was highly commended at the TCM Turner Classic Shorts Competition, and nomined Best UK Short at Raindance. Armchair Detectives
''Armchair Detectives'' is a British gameshow whodunnit series that debuted in 2017. The show was commissioned for BBC One Daytime and is produced by Tiger Aspect Productions (a label of Endemol Shine UK). Hosted by Susan Calman, the series is produced by Carly Brooks and Daniel Twist executive produced by Andy Brereton. The show follows in the footsteps of other similar shows, including '' Whodunnit?'' (1972–78), ''Cluedo'' (1990–93) and ''Sleuth 101'' (2010). In November 2018, the series won a BAFTA Scotland award for Best Entertainment series. Arab Strap (band)
Arab Strap are a Scottish indie rock band whose core members are Aidan Moffat and Malcolm Middleton. The band were signed to independent record label Chemikal Underground, split in 2006 and reformed in 2016. The band signed to Rock Action Records in 2020. History Vocalist and drummer Aidan Moffat and multi-instrumentalist Malcolm Middleton grew up in Falkirk, Scotland, and bonded over their mutual love for Drag City recording artists such as Will Oldham (who at the time recorded under the name Palace Brothers) and Smog. They began collaborating in 1995, and their debut album, '' The Week Never Starts Round Here'', was released the following year. The Delgados
The Delgados are a Scottish indie rock band formed in Glasgow in 1994. The band is composed of Alun Woodward (vocals, guitar), Emma Pollock (vocals, guitar), Stewart Henderson (bass guitar), and Paul Savage (drums). Biography The band was formed after friends Woodward, Henderson and Savage were ejected from the band Bubblegum. Joined by Savage's then-girlfriend (and later wife) Pollock, the band named themselves after Pedro Delgado, a Spanish former professional road bicycle racer who won the 1988 Tour de France. Their first commercial release came with the inclusion of their track "Liquidation Girl" on the compilation album ''Skookum Chief Powered Teenage Zit Rock Angst'' by Nardwuar. King Creosote
Kenny Anderson (born January 1967), known primarily by his stage name King Creosote, is an independent singer-songwriter from Fife, Scotland. To date, Anderson has released over forty albums, with his latest full length, '' Astronaut Meets Appleman'', released in 2016. Anderson is also a member of Scottish-Canadian band The Burns Unit. In 2011, Anderson's collaborative album with Jon Hopkins, ''Diamond Mine'', was nominated for the Mercury Prize and the Scottish Album of the Year Award. ''Astronaut Meets Appleman'' was also longlisted for the Scottish Album of the Year Award. Kate Dickie
Kate Dickie (born 1971) is a Scottish actress who has appeared in television series, stage plays and films. She is known for her television roles as Lex in the BBC series '' Tinsel Town'' (2000–2001) and Lysa Arryn in the HBO series '' Game of Thrones'' (2011, 2014). Dickie is also known for her portrayal of the security operative Jackie in her 2006 feature-film debut '' Red Road'', directed by Andrea Arnold, for which she won several awards, including Best Actress at the British Academy Scotland Awards and the British Independent Film Award for Best Actress. She again won Best Actress at the 2016 British Academy Scotland Awards for the film '' Couple in a Hole''. UK Film Council
The UK Film Council (UKFC) was a non-departmental public body set up in 2000 to develop and promote the film industry in the UK. It was constituted as a private company limited by guarantee, owned by the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, and governed by a board of 15 directors. It was funded from various sources including The National Lottery. John Woodward was the Chief Executive Officer of the UKFC. On 26 July 2010, the government announced that the council would be abolished. Although one of the parties elected into that government had, for some months, promised a ''bonfire of the Quangos'', Woodward said that the decision had been taken with "no notice and no consultation". Scottish Screen
The Moving Image Archive is a collection of Scottish film and video recordings at the National Library of Scotland, held at Kelvin Hall in Glasgow, Scotland. There are over 46,000 items within the collection, and over 2,600 of these are publicly available online at the library's Moving Image Catalogue. History The Scottish Film Archive was established by the Scottish Film Council in 1976 with the aid of the Government's Job Creation Scheme and became a permanent feature of the council's activities in 1978. Creative Scotland ( gd, Alba Chruthachail ; sco, Creative Scotlan) is the development body for the arts and creative industries in Scotland. Based in Edinburgh, it is an executive non-departmental public body of the Scottish Government.
