Marshbrook railway station was a station in Marshbrook, Shropshire, England. The station was opened in 1852 and closed in 1958. History Marshbrook station was constructed in 1852 for the railway company comprising a stationmaster's house, waiting room and ticket office. The station was closed in 1958 and the building was subsequently used as a private house, before it was demolished in 2019. A signal box and level crossing remain. Marshbrook
Marshbrook is a hamlet in Shropshire, England. It is sometimes spelt "Marsh Brook", which is also the name of a small watercourse which flows through the area. It lies on the junction of the A49 and B4370, 3 miles to the south of the market town of Church Stretton. Three civil parishes come together in the hamlet: Church Stretton, Wistanstow and Acton Scott. The hamlet lies at 163m above sea level at the southern end of the Stretton Gap. A Roman road passed through what is now Marshbrook, on its way from Leintwardine to Wroxeter. The Welsh Marches Line runs through the hamlet and there was once a small station here. Shrewsbury And Hereford Railway
The Shrewsbury and Hereford Railway was an English railway company that built a standard gauge line between those places. It opened its main line in . Its natural ally seemed to be the Great Western Railway. With other lines it formed a route between the mineral resources of South Wales and the industries of the north-west of England, and this attracted the interest of the London and North Western Railway, which sought access to South Wales. The GWR and the LNWR jointly leased the S&HR line in 1862, later jointly acquiring ownership of it, in 1871. LNWR mineral traffic developed, and after the opening of the Severn Tunnel in 1886, the line became an important main line for traffic from the south-west of England to the north-west. Little Stretton Halt was a minor railway station on the Welsh Marches Line between Craven Arms and Church Stretton in Shropshire, England. History Opened by the independent Shrewsbury and Hereford Railway in 1852–53, the line through Little Stretton became the joint property of the Great Western Railway and the London and North Western Railway (LNWR) in 1870; the LNWR interest passed to the London, Midland and Scottish Railway during the Grouping of 1923. ''Little Stretton Halt'' was opened on that line on 18 April 1935; it closed temporarily between 4 January 1943 and 6 May 1946.
