Mars is a permanent offshore drilling and production tension-leg oil platform (TLP) operating in Mississippi Canyon blocks 762, 763, 806, 807, 850 and 851 in the Gulf of Mexico and was approved by the MMS in December 1992 with production beginning on July 8, 1996. The leases were acquired by Shell in 1985 and 1988. The platform is a joint venture between Shell Oil Company and BP, with Shell owning the majority share and operating the facility. Mars is positioned in a water depth of 896 m (2940 ft) and is designed to produce of oil and of gas a day. Development and production In October 1993, Shell announced plans to develop Mars utilizing an in-house designed and engineered TLP. The TLP was installed three years later in May at a water depth of 2,940 feet, making it the deepest TLP at the time as measured from its base on the seabed to the top of its tower. Magnolia Tension-leg Platform
Magnolia is an offshore oil drilling and production Extended Tension Leg Platform in the Gulf of Mexico. It was the world's deepest ETLP, reaching , beating the Marco Polo TLP by . In March 2018, Big Foot took over this claim in . The hull consists of four circular columns connected at the bottom by rectangular pontoons. At the base of each column, a pontoon extends outward to support two tethers, which are connected to pile foundations on the seabed. The design capacity is an estimated daily production of of oil and of natural gas. The Magnolia field is located approximately south of Cameron, Louisiana, in Garden Banks blocks 783 and 784 in the Gulf of Mexico. Olympus Tension Leg Platform
Olympus is a tension leg platform oil rig, planned as a further development of the Mars field (hence "Mars B"). Design Olympus is a Tension Leg Platform, with 24 wells; added to Mars A, this means a combined 48 wells and more than per day of oil equivalent capacity. The body of the platform was fabricated in South Korea, then transported to Texas on the MV Blue Marlin, arriving in January 2013, to be fitted with topside equipment made by Kiewit Offshore Services. Project Shell owns 71.5% of the project; BP owns 28.5%. It was originally expected to become operational in 2015 but first oil production safely occurred as quickly as early February 2014.
