Mark Zieman
Mark L. Zieman (born January 14, 1945) was a Republican Iowa State Senator from Iowa. He was formerly part of the leadership of the Iowa Senate. He represented the largely rural 8th district, covering Allamakee, Winneshiek, Chickasaw and Howard counties in the northeastern corner of the state. He served in the Iowa Senate 2001–2009 and was a past co-chair of the Senate Ways and Means Committee. Prior to his election to state office, he worked with various local government, Republican, and community organizations. His father was the previous state senator from his district. Zieman was re-elected in 2004 with 15,682 votes (55%), defeating Democratic opponent John Beard. He was an unsuccessful candidate in the Iowa Senate elections, 2008. Lyle Zieman
Lyle Elmer Zieman (March 12, 1921 – January 25, 2003) was an American farmer, businessman, and politician. Born on a farm, near Luana, Iowa, in Clayton County, Iowa, Zieman graduated from Postville High School in Postville, Iowa. He was a dairy and hog farmer in Allamakee County, Iowa. He was also involved with the banking and telephone businesses. Zieman served on the Allamakee County of Supervisors. He also served on the Postville Community School Board. From 1993 until 2001, Zieman served in the Iowa State Senate and was a Republican. Zieman died in a hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. His son Mark Zieman Mark L. The 2008 Iowa Senate election were held on November 4, 2008. The Senate seats for the twenty-five even-numbered districts were up for election. Senate terms are staggered such that half the membership is elected every two years, with each Senators serving a four-year term. Prior to the election, the Democrats were in the majority - marking the first time in 42 years that the Democrats had controlled both branches of the Iowa General Assembly and the Governor's Office. Chickasaw County, Iowa
Chickasaw County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 12,012. Its county seat is New Hampton. The county was named for the southern Indian Nation whose chief was ''Bradford''. History Chickasaw County was founded in January 1851. It was named after the Chickasaw tribe, which lived in the Southern United States at the time. The first nonindigenous settlers arrived in 1848 and the first county seat was from 1854 in Bradford, in the southwestern corner of the county. In the spring of 1857, the seat was moved to New Hampton, located near the geographic center, and was then called Chickasaw Center. The first county offices were housed in private houses and in the school building. The first courthouse, a wood-frame building, was erected in 1865.
