Mark White (British Musician)
Mark Andrew White (born 1 April 1961) is an English singer, songwriter, composer, musician and record producer. Born in Sheffield, England, White first entered the music industry in the late 1970s as lead vocalist and keyboardist of the electronic band Vice Versa. After releasing one studio album with the band in 1980, Vice Versa member Martin Fry emerged as lead vocalist and the band opted to transform into a new band called ABC. White resigned himself to composing ABC's music while also playing guitar and keyboards before retiring from music after the release of their sixth studio album, ''Abracadabra'', in 1991. As ABC's keyboardist he used a variety of instruments, including the E-mu Emulator, the Yamaha DX7 and the Fairlight CMI. In 2014, White came out of retirement to reform Vice Versa with Stephen Singleton. ''Up'' is the fifth studio album by English pop band ABC, released in October 1989. This time experimenting with house music, it was ABC's first album not to make the top 40 in the UK. However, they scored a minor UK hit with the single "One Better World", an ode to love, peace and tolerance. "The Real Thing" was also released as a single. ''Up'' was the band's final album released on the PolyGram label. In 2005, a digitally remastered CD of the album was released with five bonus tracks. ''Beauty Stab'' is the second studio album by English pop band ABC, released on 14 November 1983 by Neutron Records, Mercury Records and Vertigo Records. The album was recorded over a period of three months between August and September 1983, in sessions that took place at Sarm Studios East and West, Townhouse Studios and Abbey Road Studios. It was a departure from the stylised production of the band's debut studio album, ''The Lexicon of Love'' (1982), and featured a more guitar-oriented sound. The album was produced by ABC with Gary Langan, who had been the audio engineer on the band's debut studio album. The band employed the rhythm section of Andy Newmark (drums) and Alan Spenner (bass guitar) both of whom had recently recorded and toured with Roxy Music at the time. The cover photography was by Gered Mankowitz. On release, the album was received negatively by the majority of music critics. ''The Lexicon of Love'' is the debut studio album by English pop band ABC. It was released on 21 June 1982 by Neutron Records in the United Kingdom, by Mercury Records in the United States and Japan, and by Vertigo Records in Canada and Europe. The album entered the UK Albums Chart at number one and has been certified platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) and gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). It features four UK top 20 singles; "Tears Are Not Enough", "Poison Arrow", " The Look of Love" and "All of My Heart". Though Martin Fry has declined to label it a concept album, the album features repeated themes in which the singer experiences heartache as he tries and fails to have a meaningful relationship. The Human League
The Human League are an English synth-pop band formed in Sheffield in 1977. Initially an experimental electronic outfit, the group signed to Virgin Records in 1979 and later attained widespread commercial success with their third album ''Dare'' in 1981 after restructuring their lineup. Stephen Singleton
Stephen Barry Singleton (born 17 April 1959) is an English musician, currently residing in Sheffield, England. He was the saxophonist in the pop band ABC (which he left in 1984), starring in the 1983 short film ''Mantrap''. According to an interview Singleton did for the documentary ''Made in Sheffield'', he was friends with Def Leppard's lead vocalist Joe Elliott when the two were young children. Along with Mark White and David Sydenham, he founded the electronic band Vice Versa in 1977. He also produced several issues of ''Steve's Papers'', a Sheffield punk fanzine. In the early 1990s, Singleton was a member of the band Bleep & Booster, who released an album on London Records and produced some remixes for East 17. Singleton also produced records by the Treebound Story (featuring a young Richard Hawley) and Libitina.
