Mark Turner (born November 10, 1965) is an American jazz saxophonist. Biography Born in Fairborn, Ohio, and raised in the small Southern California town of Palos Verdes Estates, Turner originally intended to become a commercial artist. In elementary school he played the clarinet, followed by the alto and tenor saxophones in high school. He attended California State University, Long Beach in the 1980s (playing in the jazz ensembles) and then transferred to and graduated from Berklee College of Music in 1990 before moving to New York. Turner worked at Tower Records in New York City for an extended period before working full-time as a jazz musician. In early November 2008 Turner injured two fingers on one of his hands with a power saw, but as of late February 2009 he was performing again with the Edward Simon Quartet at the Village Vanguard. Mark Turner (born 1954) is a cognitive scientist, linguist, and author. He is Institute Professor and Professor of Cognitive Science at Case Western Reserve University. He has won an Anneliese Maier Research Prize from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (2015) and a Grand Prix (''Prix du Rayonnement de la langue et de la littérature françaises'') from the French Academy (1996) for his work in these fields. Turner and Gilles Fauconnier founded the theory of conceptual blending, presented in textbooks and encyclopedias. Turner is also the director of the Cognitive Science Network (CSN) and co-director of the Distributed Little Red Hen Lab. His wife is the writer Megan Whalen Turner. Mark Turner (born 23 October 1984) is an English cricketer who most recently played for Derbyshire. He is a right-handed batsman and right-arm medium-fast bowler. Career Turner played for England Under-19s in 2003 and 2004, taking 9–104 against Bangladesh at Taunton in 2004. He made his first-class debut for Durham in 2005 but made just 3 first-class appearances for them in 2005 and 2006 combined. He moved to Somerset where he acted as an understudy to the senior bowlers and made his maiden first-class fifty against Derbyshire in the 2007 season. In September 2010, it was announced that he would join Derbyshire in 2011. At the end of the 2014 season, Turner was released by Derbyshire having spent part of the season on loan at Northamptonshire. He was known for his aggressive fast bowling in the Twenty20 form of the game, and being able to bowl at a similar pace off both a short and full-length run-up. Turner made his List-A debut for Huntingdonshire against Bedfordshire in the 1st round of the 1999 NatWest Trophy. Mark Turner (born 14 April 1960) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Turner, a recruit from St Leo's College, made 35 appearances for Hawthorn, between 1979 and 1983. He then played in the Victorian Football Association (VFA), first at Camberwell, followed by a stint with Box Hill. In the 1986 VFA Second Division Grand Final, Turner was on a half back flank for Box Hill, in an 18-point win over Sunshine, to claim the premiership. Mark Turner (born 4 October 1972) is a former English footballer, born in Bebington, Cheshire, who played in the Football League for Wolverhampton Wanderers, Northampton Town and Hereford United. He played as a defender or midfielder. He joined Conference North side Tamworth for the second time in 2007. He started his career with Paget Rangers in the West Midlands Regional League. He then joined Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1991 where he played under his father, Graham Turner, making a single league appearance in three seasons. A season at Northampton Town followed before he joined Conference side Telford United. In 1996, he played six league matches for Hereford United after his father Graham signed him on transfer deadline day, to bolster his relegation-threatened side. Sir Mark George Turner (born 27 August 1959), styled The Hon. Mr Justice Turner, is a British judge of the High Court of England and Wales. Legal career Turner was called to the bar at Gray's Inn in 1981. In 1998, he was appointed a Queen's Counsel. Turner became a Recorder in 2000, and was appointed to sit as a deputy High Court judge.
