Mark Kerins
Mark Kerins (born 1979) is an Irish hurler who played as a centre-forward for the Galway senior team. Born in Clarinbridge, County Galway, Kerins first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of eighteen when he first linked up with the Galway minor team, before later joining the under-21 side. He joined the senior team for the 1999 championship. Kerins went on to play a bit part for Galway at various times for almost a decade, and won one National Hurling League medal. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. As a member of the Connacht inter-provincial team at various times, Kerins won two Railway Cup medals. At club level he is a one-time All-Ireland medallist with Clarinbridge. In addition to this he also won one Connacht medal and two championship medals. His retirement came following the conclusion of the 2008 championship. Kerins's brother, Alan, enjoyed a lengthy career as a dual player with Galway. Connacht Senior Club Hurling Championship
The Connacht Senior Club Hurling Championship was an annual hurling tournament played between the senior hurling clubs in Connacht contested from 1970 until 2007 when it was discontinued due to a lack of meaningful opposition for the Galway champions. The Galway champions now qualify directly for the All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship semi-final. Throughout the competition's existence the Galway champions automatically qualified for the final. In 2007, the competition's final year, this competition was won by Portumna from Galway. The competition had long since become a formality for the Galway teams. The Mayo and Roscommon champions now compete in the Connacht Intermediate Club Hurling Championship. Dual Player
Dual player or dual star is a term used in Hiberno-English to describe someone who competes in multiple sports — for example, in Victorian Ireland, cricket and hurling. The term today in Gaelic games typically describes a male player who plays both Gaelic football and hurling or, if a female player, a player of ladies' Gaelic football and camogie. The player does not necessarily have to play at the same standard in both sports. The number of dual stars at county level has decreased recently due to the increasing demands placed upon the best players of both sports. Alan Kerins
Alan Kerins (born 1977) is an Irish sportsman, humanitarian, social entrepreneur and philanthropist. Kerins was a dual player for Galway, a hurler between 1997 and 2011 and a footballer between 2001 and 2004. He played with the senior inter-county team until 2011. Kerins played hurling with his local club Clarinbridge and football with Salthill-Knocknacarra. He is also founder and CEO of The Inner Winner Institute, a personal development training company. Early life Kerins's mother runs a B&B in Clarinbridge. His father Monty was a significant presence as a coach of hurling in Galway and was a selector for the county's minor and senior teams. Kerins studied physiotherapy at Trinity College Dublin. 2008 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship 2008 was the 122nd since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1887. The first matches of the season were played on 25 May 2008, and the championship ended on 7 September 2008. Kilkenny went into the 2008 championship as defending champions, having won their thirtieth All-Ireland title the previous year. The championship culminated with the All-Ireland final, held at Croke Park, Dublin. The match was contested by Kilkenny and Waterford. It was their first meeting in the final since 1963. The GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Club Championship, known simply as the All-Ireland Club Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county club hurling competition in Ireland, and has been contested every year since the 1970-71 championship (except for 2020-2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic).
