Mark Anthony (Royal Navy Officer)
Mark Anthony of Carrigcastle (1786 – 1 June 1867) was an officer in the 19th century Royal Navy. As a 15-year-old, he boarded the Milford packet in Checkpoint in 1801 and, a week later on 14 July, he had joined the Royal Navy as a midshipman on board the sloop (18 guns) which was then in berth at Portsmouth. He was serving on her when she had 15 men killed in an unsuccessful action off the west coast of Cuba towards the close of 1803. He was then posted to . In September 1804 he joined the frigate ( 38 guns) which was present at the Battle of Trafalgar. During this battle, Mark Anthony rescued 56 officers and men of the before she blew up, and assisted in towing the third rate from a perilous position near the shoals. He was promoted lieutenant by commission dated 22 April 1808. Dunmore East () is a popular tourist and fishing village in County Waterford, Ireland. Situated on the west side of Waterford Harbour on Ireland's southeastern coast, it lies within the barony of Gaultier (''Gáll Tír'' – "foreigners' land" in Irish); a reference to the influx of Viking and Norman settlers in the area. HMS Queen Charlotte
Four ships of the Royal Navy have been named HMS ''Queen Charlotte'' after Charlotte, queen consort of King George III of the United Kingdom. *The first was a first rate of 100 guns, built at Chatham and launched in 1790. She took part in several actions against the French navy, and flew the flag of Admiral Alexander Hood, 1st Viscount Bridport, during the Battle of Groix. She caught fire and sank on 17 March 1800. *The second was a 104-gun first rate, launched in 1810, led the Bombardment of Algiers on 27 August 1816, was renamed ''Excellent'' in 1859 and sold in 1892. *The third was a ship-sloop constructed for the Upper Canada Provincial Marine on the Great Lakes. The ship was commissioned in 1813 into the Royal Navy and the United States captured her on 10 September 1813 following the Battle of Lake Erie. Ballylaneen
Ballylaneen ( previously spelt as Baile Uí Laithín) is a small village and townland in County Waterford, Ireland, approximately halfway between the villages of Kilmacthomas and Bunmahon on a hill by the River Mahon. Features The village features a Catholic church (St. Anne's, built in 1824), a public house, a now closed shop-garage and about seven dwelling houses. It also has St. Anne's Holy Well, where people are said to have gone to pray for cures in the past (enclosed by a wall in 1974). The village was larger in the 19th century and gave its name to a parish of its own, which was administered from Mothel, about 10 miles to the north. Today Ballylaneen is part of Stradbally parish, whose parish priest resides in Stradbally, about 4 miles away. The ruins of a large mill can be seen on the river Mahon, east of the village. Freedom Of The City
The Freedom of the City (or Borough in some parts of the UK) is an honour bestowed by a municipality upon a valued member of the community, or upon a visiting celebrity or dignitary. Arising from the medieval practice of granting respected citizens freedom from serfdom, the tradition still lives on in countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, Canada, South Africa and New Zealand—although today the title of "freeman" confers no special privileges. The Freedom of the City can also be granted by municipal authorities to military units which have earned the city's trust; in this context, it is sometimes called the Freedom of Entry. This allows them the freedom to parade through the city, and is an affirmation of the bond between the regiment and the citizenry. Harbour Master
A harbourmaster (or harbormaster, see spelling differences) is an official responsible for enforcing the regulations of a particular harbour or port, in order to ensure the safety of navigation, the security of the harbour and the correct operation of the port facilities. Responsibilities Harbourmasters are normally responsible for issuing local safety information sometimes known as notice to mariners. They may also oversee the maintenance and provision of navigational aids within the port, co-ordinate responses to emergencies, inspect vessels and oversee pilotage services. The harbourmaster may have legal power to detain, caution or even arrest persons committing an offence within the port or tidal range of the port's responsibilities.
