Mark Alexander (politician)
Mark Alexander (February 7, 1792 – October 7, 1883) was a nineteenth-century slave owner, lawyer and political figure from Virginia. Biography Born on a plantation near Boydton, Virginia, Alexander attended the public schools as a child and graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1811. He studied law and was admitted to the bar, commencing practice in Boydton. He was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 1815 to 1819 before he was elected a Democratic-Republican, Crawford Republican and Jacksonian to the United States House of Representatives in 1818, serving from 1819 to 1833. There, Alexander served as chairman of the Committee on the District of Columbia from 1825 to 1829. After declining renomination in 1832, he was a delegate to the Virginia Constitutional Convention from 1829 to 1830 and was again a member of the House of Delegates from 1845 to 1846. Mark Steven Alexander (born 5 April 1962) is an English first-class cricketer. Alexander is a left-handed batsman who bowls right-arm off break and who formerly played primarily as a wicketkeeper. He was born at Farnborough, Kent. Alexander represented the Kent Cricket Board in List A cricket. His debut List A game came against Denmark in the 1999 NatWest Trophy. From 1999 to 2001, he represented the Board in 9 List A matches, the last of which came against the Leicestershire Cricket Board in the 2nd round of the 2002 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy which was held in 2001. In his 9 List A matches, he scored 182 runs at a batting average of 26.00, with a single century high score of 107 *. Behind the stumps he took 4 catches and made a single stumping. Mark Alexander (born ) is an American keyboardist, vocalist, and producer–songwriter. Biography Alexander was born in New Canaan, Connecticut. He started his professional career playing keyboards for R&B singer Meli'sa Morgan (best known for her hit remake of Prince's "Do Me Baby"), before becoming the keyboard player for Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul. He toured with the band in 1988 on the Freedom, No Compromise Tour. Following the tour, he co-produced and played keyboards and synthesizers on Little Steven's ''Revolution'' album, and was the keyboardist and vocalist on the subsequent tour. Following the tour, he worked as a session player on various projects produced by Little Steven, including records with Darlene Love, The E Street Band, and Meat Loaf. Alexander joined Meat Loaf and the Neverland Express in 1990 as pianist-vocalist, touring with him until 1993, when he joined Curtis Stigers' (Arista Records) band as pianist-synthesist. Mark Alexander (born 1966) is a British artist living and working in Berlin. Biography Born in the small market town of Horsham, West Sussex, Alexander came to painting relatively late, receiving his BFA from Oxford University as a mature student in 1996, despite his lack of formal education or training. Alexander was an artist in residence at the Beethoven Haus in Bonn, Germany (2014–15). Alexander has nine of his works included in the permanent collection of The Centre Pompidou Foundation, Paris. Style and works Alexander's style is characterised by meticulous labour-intensive brushwork. His art often reinvents the icons of the past, recasting such well-known cultural objects as the Shield of Achilles, Van Gogh's famous portrait of the French physician Paul Gachet, and ruined statues of saints in New College, Oxford.
