Marjorie Ziegler
Marjorie Ziegler (1956–2018) was a naturalist and conservation advocate from Honolulu County, Hawaii. Alongside a number of other environmental initiatives, she served as executive director of the Conservation Council for Hawaii for 15 years. Early life Marjorie Fern Yasue Ziegler was born on January 14, 1956, in Berkeley, California. From age 10, she was raised in Kaneohe, Hawaii, where her love for nature quickly evolved. Her mother, Kaye, was raised in Kyoto, Japan and developed a love for animals. Her father, Alan, served as the director of the Bishop Museum's Division of Vertebrate Zoology, leaving a legacy that included discoveries of native bird species and a book on Hawaii's natural history. Growing up, Ziegler had a variety of pets, including those that were domesticated and semi-wild. Honolulu County, Hawaii
Honolulu County (), officially known as the City and County of Honolulu (formerly ''Oahu County''), is a consolidated city-county in the U.S. state of Hawaii, one of five counties in the state. The city-county includes both Urban Honolulu (the state's capital and largest community) and the rest of the neighborhoods on the island of Oʻahu, as well as several minor outlying islands, including all of the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands (islands beyond Niihau) except Midway Atoll. The consolidated city-county was established in the city charter adopted in 1907 and accepted by the Legislature of the Territory of Hawaii. As a municipal corporation and jurisdiction it manages aspects of government traditionally exercised by both municipalities and counties in the rest of the United States. MidWeek
''MidWeek'' is a weekly United States tabloid shopper and advertisement periodical published Wednesday in Honolulu, Hawaii and distributed throughout the Islands of Oahu and Kauai. It is owned by Black Press and is a sister publication of the ''Honolulu Star-Advertiser''. History The shopper started in 1984 to provide advertisers with an alternative way to reach more customers. Publisher Ken Berry helped secure deals with Safeway and Pay ‘n Save to advertise with the fledgling publication. Berry sought out cover stories and columnists that would increase readership. The first issue of ''MidWeek'' was published on July 18, 1984 and featured local newscaster Joe Moore on the cover. The first ''MidWeek'' editor was Cheryl Deep. 1984 to 1987, followed by Vera Benedek, 1987 to 1994, and Don Chapman who joined the newspaper in November 1994.
