Marjan Van Aubel
Marjan van Aubel (born in 1985) is a Dutch solar designer based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Education Van Aubel graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy with a BA DesignLAB in 2009, and in 2012 gained an MA in Design Products from the Royal College of Art in London. Career and awards Most of van Aubel's work involves incorporating solar cells into furniture, windows, and other objects. She has also designed a cover to maximize the surface area and thus the yield of a solar panel. Her solar-powered table charger, ''Current Table'', was included in the 2015 Design Museum Designs of the Year exhibition in London. In 2016 she won the 2015 ''Radicale Vernieuwer'' (radical renewer) award from the Dutch newspaper ''Vrij Nederland'' and also the Innovation in Product Design award at the first ''Wired'' Audi Innovation Awards, for ''Current Window'', a stained glass window incorporating dye-sensitized solar cells. Bergen Op Zoom
Bergen op Zoom (; called ''Berrege'' in the local dialect) is a municipality and a city located in the south of the Netherlands. Etymology The city was built on a place where two types of soil meet: sandy soil and marine clay. The sandy soil pushed against the marine clay, accumulating and forming hills over several centuries. People called those hills the ''Brabantse Wal'', literally meaning "ramparts of Brabant". ''Zoom'' refers to the border of these ramparts and ''bergen'' in Dutch means mountains or hills. The name has nothing to do with the little channel, the ‘Zoom’, which was later built through Bergen op Zoom. History Bergen op Zoom was granted city status probably in 1212. Pauline van Dongen (born 1986) is a Dutch fashion designer specialised in wearable technology. Life In 2010, van Dongen established her own design studio, Pauline van Dongen Studio. Het Nieuwe Instituut (HNI, English: The New Institute) is a cultural centre in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. It focuses on architecture, design, and digital culture. HNI is in a building designed by Jo Coenen at Museumpark 25 in the centre of Rotterdam, adjacent to the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. The building contains a shop, exhibition space, study centre, and archive, as well as the Sonneveld House (a prime example of Nieuwe Zakelijkheid architecture), a pond, and a small park. Formation Het Nieuwe Instituut (HNI) was formed in 2013, when then-secretary of state for Education, Culture, and Science Halbe Zijlstra ordered the merger of the Dutch institutes for architecture, design, and e-culture. Expo 2020 ( ar, إكسبو 2020) was a World Expo hosted by Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022. The Vitra Design Museum is a privately owned museum for design in Weil am Rhein, Germany. Former Vitra CEO, and son of Vitra founders Willi and Erika Fehlbaum, Rolf Fehlbaum founded the museum in 1989 as an independent private foundation. ''Dezeen'' is an online architecture, interiors and design magazine based in London, with offices in Hoxton and also previously in New York City. History ''Dezeen'' was launched in London by Marcus Fairs at the end of November 2006. Its New York City office launched in 2015, with editors based in Manhattan and then Brooklyn, before closing in fall 2020. Starting from 2018, the magazine launched annual ''Dezeen Awards'' honouring achievements in best architecture, interiors and design around the world.
