Marinobacter
''Marinobacter'' is a genus of bacteria found in sea water. They are also found in a variety of salt lakes. A number of strains and species can degrade hydrocarbon In organic chemistry, a hydrocarbon is an organic compound consisting entirely of hydrogen and carbon. Hydrocarbons are examples of group 14 hydrides. Hydrocarbons are generally colourless and hydrophobic, and their odors are usually weak or ex ...s. The species involved in hydrocarbon degradation include '' M. alkaliphilus'', '' M. arcticus'', '' M. hydrocarbonoclasticus'', '' M. maritimus'' & '' M. squalenivorans''. There are currently 46 species of Marinobacter that are characterized by Gram-negative rods and salt-tolerance. Ursus Maritimus
The polar bear (''Ursus maritimus'') is a hypercarnivorous bear whose native range lies largely within the Arctic Circle, encompassing the Arctic Ocean, its surrounding seas and surrounding land masses. It is the largest extant bear species, as well as the largest extant land carnivore. A boar (adult male) weighs around , while a sow (adult female) is about half that size. Although it is the sister species of the brown bear, it has evolved to occupy a narrower ecological niche, with many body characteristics adapted for cold temperatures, for moving across snow, ice and open water, and for hunting seals, which make up most of its diet. Although most polar bears are born on land, they spend most of their time on the sea ice. Their scientific name means "maritime bear" and derives from this fact. Polar bears hunt their preferred food of seals from the edge of sea ice, often living off fat reserves when no sea ice is present. Because of their dependence on the sea ice, polar bea ... Antechinus Minimus Maritimus
The swamp antechinus (''Antechinus minimus''), also known as the little Tasmanian marsupial mouse, is a species of shrew-like marsupial of the family Dasyuridae and as such is related to dunnarts, quolls and the Tasmanian devil. Taxonomy The swamp antechinus was first described in 1803 (the first of all the antechinuses) by Étienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire Étienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire (15 April 177219 June 1844) was a French naturalist who established the principle of "unity of composition". He was a colleague of Jean-Baptiste Lamarck and expanded and defended Lamarck's evolutionary theories. ..., who placed it in the genus ''Dasyurus'' (quolls), hence its species name ''minimus'', which means "smallest". There are two recognised subspecies of the Swamp Antechinus: *''A. m. minimus'', found in Tasmania and Bass Strait; *''A. m. maritimus'', found on the mainland; this subspecies is declining and is classed as near threatened. Raphanus
''Raphanus'' (Latin for "radish") is a genus within the flowering plant family Brassicaceae. Carl Linnaeus described three species within the genus: the cultivated radish (''Raphanus sativus''), the wild radish or jointed charlock (''Raphanus raphanistrum''), and the rat-tail radish (''Raphanus caudatus''). Various other species have been proposed (particularly related to the East Asian daikon varieties) and the rat-tail radish is sometimes considered a variety of ''R. sativus'', but no clear consensus has emerged. ''Raphanus'' species grow as annual plant, annual or biennial plants, with a taproot which is much enlarged in the cultivated radish. Unlike many other genera in the family Brassicaceae, ''Raphanus'' has indehiscent fruit that do not split open at maturity to reveal the seeds. The genus is native to Asia, but its members can now be found worldwide. Growing wild, they are regarded as invasive species in many regions. ''Raphanus'' species are used as food plants by the ...
