Mario Kargl
Mario Kargl (born 14 May 1986) is an Austrian male professional tennis player. He was a former world no. 1 deaf tennis player and a former world champion at the Deaf tennis Championship in 2011. He has represented Austria at the Deaflympics in 2005, 2009, 2013 and 2017. He has clinched a medal haul of 4 bronze medals in his Deaflympic career after making his debut at the multi-sport event at the 2005 Summer Deaflympics at the age of 19. Career Mario Kargl was named as one of the members of the Austrian delegation for the Melbourne Deaflympics and took part in the men's singles and doubles events but couldn't manage to proceed beyond the group stage after being knocked out of the first round. He again went onto participate at the Deaflympics after gaining the opportunity to represent Austria at the 2009 Summer Deaflympics. Tennis
Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. The object of the game is to manoeuvre the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return. 2009 Summer Deaflympics
The 2009 Summer Deaflympics (), officially known as the XXI Summer Deaflympic Games and commonly known as Taipei 2009, is an international multi-sport event that was celebrated from 5 to 15 September 2009 in Taipei, Taiwan (Republic of China). It is the third Summer Deaflympics to be held in the Asia-Pacific region. Judo, karate, and taekwondo have been recognized as new summer disciplines in the Deaflympics sports competition program. 2013 Summer Deaflympics
The 2013 Summer Deaflympics ( bg, 2013 летни дефлимпийски игри), officially known as the 22nd Summer Deaflympics ( bg, 22-ра лятна глуха олимпиада), was an international multi-sport event that took place in Sofia, Bulgaria from July 26 to August 4, 2013. The marathon had been held before in Füssen, Germany on 21 July. Sofia was hosting the biggest sports event for deaf athletes for a second time. In the past the Bulgarian capital hosted the 1993 Summer Deaflympics, thus becoming only the second city, together with Copenhagen, which has hosted two Summer Deaflympics. The 2013 games was to be held in Athens, Greece, but the city decline the hosting rights citing no Organising Committee for the event and economic turmoil in the country.
