Călin Peter Netzer
Călin Peter Netzer (; born 1 May 1975) is a Romanian film director who won the Golden Bear at the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival. Born in Petroșani to a family of Romanian and German origins, Netzer emigrated with his family to West Germany in 1983. In 1994, he returned to Romania in order to study film direction at the Academy of Theatre and Film in Bucharest. His first feature film, ''Maria'' (2003), won the Special Prize of the Jury at the Locarno International Film Festival, among other prizes at this and other film festivals. The Locarno Film Festival is an annual film festival, held every August in Locarno, Switzerland. Luminița Gheorghiu (; 1 September 1949 – 4 July 2021) was a Romanian film actress, and artistic performer in East Central Europe. She achieved international recognition for her roles in '' The Death of Mr. Lazarescu'' (2006) and '' Child's Pose'' (2013). Gheorghiu's roles were mostly in Romanian and French, including that in ''Code Unknown'' with Juliette Binoche. Gheorghiu was a 1972 graduate of the Institute of Theatrical and Cinematographic Arts in Bucharest, where she studied under professor Ion Cojar. She made her debut in 1971, at the Casandra Theatre, and then played at theaters in Botoșani and Piatra Neamț. From 1976 to 2003, she played at the Bulandra Theatre in Bucharest. Zamfirescu was born in Călimănești, Vâlcea County; his grandfather, Gheorghe Zamfirescu, was mayor of the town.
