Margaret Huang
Margaret L. Huang is an American human rights and racial justice advocate, and president and chief executive officer of Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), an American civil rights nonprofit. She joined the organization in April 2020, taking over a position held for several decades by founder Morris Dees. Biography Raised in East Tennessee, she attended and graduated from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. She worked as a teacher for the Close Up Foundation before heading to graduate school at the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University. After receiving her master's degree and the Javits Fellowship from Columbia, she took a position with the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee working for Senator Claiborne Pell. She worked on foreign policy toward Asia and then Africa, leading a co-del to Kenya, Southern Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Tanzania. The March on Washington Film festival is an annual Civil Rights Legacy Project that has traditionally taken place in various locations across Washington, D.C. It offers film screenings, an emerging and student filmmaker competition, various award ceremonies, performances of the arts, exhibits and panel discussions featuring filmmakers, academics, and activists. Martha F. Davis (born 1957) is a professor of law at Northeastern University in Boston. She authored the book ''Brutal Need'', a study of the welfare rights movement of 1960 to 1973. Early life and education Davis is a native of Kansas. She holds an A.B. in anthropology, ''magna cum laude'' from Harvard College (1979), a B.A. and M.A. from Trinity College, Oxford, and a J.D. from University of Chicago Law School where she was a member of its Law Review. Global Rights is an international human rights capacity-building non-governmental organization (NGO). Founded in Washington, D.C., in 1978 with the name International Human Rights Law Group, the organization changed its name to Global Rights: Partners for Justice in 2003 on the occasion of its 25th anniversary.
