Mardock railway station served the village of Wareside, Hertfordshire, England, from 1863 to 1964 by the Buntingford branch line. History The station was opened on 3 July 1863 by the Great Eastern Railway The Great Eastern Railway (GER) was a pre-grouping British railway company, whose main line linked London Liverpool Street to Norwich and which had other lines through East Anglia. The company was grouped into the London and North Eastern R .... It was situated on the west side of the road leading to Mardocks Farm. It was known as Mardocks in RCH handbook and Mardock for Wakeside in the 1882 Great Eastern Railway timetable as well as the 1880s editions of Bradshaw. On the north side of the level crossing was a signal box that controlled a siding which served a goods yard and a cattle dock. Goods services ceased on 6 March 1961. Wareside
Wareside is a small village and civil parish in the East Hertfordshire district, in the county of Hertfordshire, England. The population of the civil parish in the 2011 census was 735. It is approximately away from the town of Ware (from where it probably took its name) and the larger town of Hertford, the county town. Nearby villages include Widford, Hunsdon, Babbs Green and Bakers End. Nearby hamlets include Cold Christmas and Helham Green. The B1004 road linking Ware to Bishop's Stortford goes through the village and the main A10 road can be joined up at Thundridge. Fanhams Hall Road links Wareside back to Ware. Great Eastern Railway
The Great Eastern Railway (GER) was a pre-grouping British railway company, whose main line linked London Liverpool Street to Norwich and which had other lines through East Anglia. The company was grouped into the London and North Eastern Railway in 1923. Formed in 1862 after the amalgamation of the Eastern Counties Railway and several other smaller railway companies the GER served Cambridge, Chelmsford, Colchester, Great Yarmouth, Ipswich, King's Lynn, Lowestoft, Norwich, Southend-on-Sea (opened by the GER in 1889), and East Anglian seaside resorts such as Hunstanton (whose prosperity was largely a result of the GER's line being built) and Cromer. St Margarets railway station is on the Hertford East branch line off the West Anglia Main Line in the east of England, serving the villages of Stanstead St Margarets and Stanstead Abbotts, Hertfordshire.
