Marcia Hermansen
Marcia Hermansen is an American scholar of Islam originally from Canada. Hermansen is professor and director of Islamic World Studies at Loyola University Chicago. Biography Hermansen earned a PhD from the University of Chicago in Arabic and Islamic Studies. Her graduate training included study of Arabic, Persian, and Urdu though language training in the respective countries. She specializes in Sufism, Islamic thought, Muslims in America, Shah Waliullah, Islam and Muslims in South Asia, and women and gender in Islam. Hermansen is a Muslim. Hermansen has studied modern Sufi movements and has described movements which hold that Sufism is part of broader, eternal spirituality as "Perennial Movements" and movements which require adherence to Islamic tradition as "Hybrid Movements", utilizing the metaphor of a garden and flowering plants to describe the diversity of modern American Sufi movements. Ednan Aslan (born November 7, 1959, in Bayburt) is an Austrian-Turkish scholar of Islam and professor of Islamic religious education at the University of Vienna. Biography Aslan was born on November 7, 1959, in Bayburt, Turkey. Aslan graduated from the University of Applied Sciences in Esslingen in 1988. Shah Waliullah Dehlawi
Quṭb-ud-Dīn Aḥmad Walīullāh Ibn ʿAbd-ur-Raḥīm Ibn Wajīh-ud-Dīn Ibn Muʿaẓẓam Ibn Manṣūr Al-ʿUmarī Ad-Dehlawī ( ar, ; 1703–1762), commonly known as Shāh Walīullāh Dehlawī (also Shah Wali Allah), was an Islamic scholar seen by his followers as a renewer. Early life Shah Waliullah was born on 21 February 1703 to Shah Abdur Rahim, a prominent Islamic scholar of Delhi. He was known as Shah Waliullah because of his piety. He memorized the ''Qur'an'' by the age of seven. Soon thereafter, he mastered Arabic and Persian letters. He was married at fourteen. By sixteen he had completed the standard curriculum of Hanafi law, theology, geometry, arithmetic and logic. His father, Shah Abdur Rahim was the founder of the Madrasah-i Rahimiyah.
