''Marcel the Shell with Shoes On'' is a 2021 American live-action stop-motion animated mockumentary comedy-drama film directed by Dean Fleischer Camp (in his feature directorial debut), with a screenplay by Fleischer Camp, Jenny Slate and Nick Paley from a story by Fleischer Camp, Slate, Paley and Elisabeth Holm. It is based on a series of shorts of the same name written by Slate and Fleischer Camp. Slate reprises her voice role as Marcel, an anthropomorphic shell living with his grandmother Connie. Fleischer Camp, Rosa Salazar, Thomas Mann, Lesley Stahl, and Isabella Rossellini also star. The film premiered at the Telluride Film Festival on September 3, 2021, and began a limited release in the United States on June 24, 2022, before its wide release on July 15, by A24. Dean Fleischer Camp is an American film director, film producer, screenwriter and film editor. He created the ''Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (short film series), Marcel the Shell with Shoes On'' short films with Jenny Slate, whom he was married to from 2012 to 2016. He also directed and starred in the Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (2021 film), feature film of the same name, which he co-wrote with Slate and Nick Paley.
