Maranhão Atlético Clube, usually known as Maranhão or MAC, is a Brazilian football club from São Luís, Maranhão state. They are currently ranked fifth among Maranhão teams in CBF's national club ranking, at 166th place overall. History Maranhão Atlético Clube was founded on September 24, 1932. In 1937, Maranhão won the Campeonato Maranhense, which was the club's first title. In 1979, Maranhão competed in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A for the first time, finishing in the 26th place. In 1980, Maranhão competed again in the Série A's first division, finishing in the 44th place (the competition's last position). The club was relegated to the second division. In 2000, the club was the Copa Norte's runner-up. São Raimundo beat the club in the final. Castelão (Maranhão)
The Estádio Governador João Castelo, also known as the Castelão, is a multi-purpose stadium inaugurated on March 9, 1975, in São Luís, Maranhão, Brazil, with a maximum capacity of 40,000 people in a three-tier configuration. The stadium is owned by the Maranhão state Government, and is the home ground of Sampaio Corrêa Futebol Clube, Moto Club and Maranhão. Its formal name honors João Castelo Ribeiro Gonçalves (1937–2016), Maranhão governor from 1979 to 1982. History Castelão was completed in 1982 and was inaugurated on February 5 of that year, when the Brazil national team beat the Portugal national team 3–1. Lucimar Ferreira da Silva (born 8 May 1978), commonly known as Lúcio, is a Brazilian former professional footballer who played as a centre-back.
