An apple is an edible fruit produced by an apple tree (''Malus domestica''). Apple trees are cultivated worldwide and are the most widely grown species in the genus ''Malus''. The tree originated in Central Asia, where its wild ancestor, ''Malus sieversii'', is still found today. Juan Francisco Manzano (1797–1854) was born a house slave in the Matanzas Province of Cuba during the colonial period. Manzano's father died before he was 15 and his only remaining family was his mother and two brothers. Manzano worked as a page through his whole life, which was a privileged job for a slave. He wrote two works of poetry and his autobiography while still enslaved. ''The Autobiography of a Slave'' is one of two only documented accounts of 19th-century Cuban slavery, the only existing narrative accounts of slavery in Spanish America. (The other is by Esteban Mesa Montejo.) Irish abolitionist Richard Robert Madden published his ''Poems by a slave in the island of Cuba'' in 1840. A second part to his autobiography was lost. Jesús María Manzano Ruano ( San Lorenzo de El Escorial, 12 May 1978) is a former Spanish professional road racing cyclist. He is famous as the whistleblower of systematic doping within his cycling team and his statements led the Guardia Civil to conduct the Operación Puerto investigation around the sport doctor Eufemiano Fuentes. Ignacio Urrutia Manzano
Ignacio Urrutia Manzano (July 1, 1879 – February 8, 1951) was a Chilean politician. He served twice as President of the Senate of Chile and minister. He was born in Concepción, the son of Luis Urrutia Rozas and of Aurora Manzano Benavente. He completed his studies in his native city, and then attended the Naval Academy, where he became a naval officer. As such, he was sent to supervise the construction of several ships that were being built at the Armstrong shipyards in Newcastle upon Tyne. He eventually returned to Chile on board the recently completed "Esmeralda". He retired from the navy in 1906 while at the same time renouncing his pension.
