History Mangudi is an ancient village. The author of Maduraikanchi i.e. Mangudi Marudhanar came from Mangudi. Surface explorations by the Department of Archaeology have found black and red ware pieces containing Tamil Brahmi Tamil-Brahmi, also known as Tamizhi or Damili, was a variant of the Brahmi script in southern India. Tenkasi is one of the 38 districts of Tamil Nadu, India, separated from Tirunelveli district on 22 November 2019. The Government of Tamil Nadu announced its creation on 18 July 2019. The district headquarters is at Tenkasi. Geography The district shares borders with Tirunelveli district in the south, Virudhunagar district in the north, Thoothukudi district in the east and Kollam and Pathanamthitta districts of Kerala in the west. The western part of the district runs along the Western Ghats, while the east is mainly flat plains. Tenkasi was formed from 6 talukas: Sivagiri, Sankarankovil, Veerakeralamputhur, Alangulam, Tenkasi and Shenkottai. Two more taluks were created afterwards: Kadayanallur and Thiruvengadam. Sankarankovil is a city in Tenkasi district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It was formerly called Sankaranayinarkoil. Sankarankovil is the home to the Sankara Narayanar Temple . History Sankarankovil is home to the Sankara Narayanar Temple, which was built by Ugra Pandiyan in and houses the deity by the name Sankara Narayanan, which is half Shiva and the other half Vishnu. According to folklore, the devotees of Hari (Vishnu) and Shiva once quarreled with each other to determine which god was more powerful, until Shiva appeared as Sankaranarayanar to show his devotees that Hari and Shiva were one and the same. Thus, it is held sacred by Saivites and those Hindus who believe that Shiva and Vishnu are a single deity. Maturaikkāñci
''Maduraikanchi'' (), is an ancient Tamil poem in the Sangam literature. It is a didactic poem and its title connotes the "poetic counsel addressed to the king of Madurai". Composed by Mankuti Marutanar – probably the chief court poet of the Pandya king Nedunjeliyan II, the ''Maduraikkāñci'' is the sixth poem in the ''Pattuppāṭṭu'' anthology. The poem is generally dated to the late classical period (2nd to 4th century CE). ''Maduraikkanci'' is the longest poem in the ''Pattuppāṭṭu'' collection with 782 lines of poetry. Many of the verses are in ''akaval'' meter and others in ''vanci'' meter. It is a detailed description of life and bustle in the ancient city of Madurai.
