He also performs original songs that are style pastiches of the work of other acts, as well as polka medleys of several popular songs, most of which feature his trademark accordion. Since having a comedy song aired on '' The Dr. Demento Radio Show'' in 1976 at age 16, Yankovic has sold more than 12 million albums (), recorded more than 150 parodies and original songs, and performed more than 1,000 live shows. Perform This Way
"Perform This Way" is a song parody by American musician "Weird Al" Yankovic. It is a parody of " Born This Way" by Lady Gaga. The lyrics are told from the point of view of Gaga and describe her performance style and fashion sense. The song is the sixth single from Yankovic's 2011 album ''Alpocalypse'', and all the proceeds were donated to the Human Rights Campaign charity. Gaga herself has praised the work and has additionally described herself as a "Weird Al" fan. The song entered and peaked at number six on the Comedy Digital Tracks chart of ''Billboard'', remaining for a total of eight weeks. Development Yankovic had already completed 11 songs for ''Alpocalypse'', but still felt the need for another song to be the lead single. As " Born This Way" was becoming more and more popular, he started to consider parodying it, but he became reluctant after hearing the song, considering that spoofing "such an earnest human rights anthem" could be in bad taste, and also because a Lady G ...

Canadian Idiot
"Canadian Idiot" is a 2006 song and digital single by American parody musician "Weird Al" Yankovic from his album ''Straight Outta Lynwood''. It is a parody of Green Day's song " American Idiot". The song is a sarcastic parody of the stereotypical American view of the Canadian way of life and a satire of American xenophobia. Yankovic pokes fun at an accentuated Canadian dialect and Canadians' love of ice hockey, beer, macaroni and cheese, and doughnuts. At the end of the song, he says that the Canadians are "up to something" and calls for a "preemptive strike". Although critical reception to the song was mixed, "Canadian Idiot" is among Yankovic's best-charting songs, peaking at  82 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. He included it on the set lists of four of his concert tours, and fans responded with hundreds of homemade music videos. Composition and themes "Canadian Idiot" is "Weird Al" Yankovic's parody of " American Idiot", a 2004 punk rock anthem by Green Day. Whil ...

Gump (song)
"Gump" is a song by American musical parodist "Weird Al" Yankovic. It is a parody of "Lump" by alternative rock group The Presidents of the United States of America and also parodies the 1994 movie ''Forrest Gump''. It is one of a handful of Yankovic songs describing the events of a movie, such as "Jurassic Park" and "The Saga Begins" and currently the only one parodied from a then-recent song. The cover for the single is itself a parody of the Presidents of the United States of America's debut album cover. This is one of Yankovic's shortest album parodies, second only to his remade version of "My Bologna" (a parody of The Knack's "My Sharona"). In the video for this song, Yankovic dons a bald cap. The Presidents of the United States of America themselves praised the parody and has since often referred to the "Weird Al" song during live performances. Comedian Brian Posehn recorded a skit for his 2020 comedy metal album ''Grandpa Metal'' called "My Phone Call with Weird Al", fe ...

Ode To A Superhero
An ode (from grc, ᾠδή, ōdḗ) is a type of lyric poetry. Odes are elaborately structured poems praising or glorifying an event or individual, describing nature intellectually as well as emotionally. A classic ode is structured in three major parts: the ''strophe'', the ''antistrophe'', and the ''epode''. Different forms such as the ''homostrophic ode'' and the ''irregular ode'' also enter. Greek odes were originally poetic pieces performed with musical accompaniment. As time passed on, they gradually became known as personal lyrical compositions whether sung (with or without musical instruments) or merely recited (always with accompaniment). The primary instruments used were the aulos and the lyre (the latter was the most revered instrument to the ancient Greeks). There are three typical forms of odes: the Pindaric, Horatian, and irregular. Pindaric odes follow the form and style of Pindar. Horatian odes follow conventions of Horace; the odes of Horace deliberately imitate ...

It is a parody of "Under the Bridge" and " Give It Away", both by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and features the same funk rock musical style. The song also appears on the soundtrack album for the 1994 live-action movie version of ''The Flintstones'', with a portion of the song played during the end credits. This was the second time Yankovic used two songs by a band in one parody, the first being " The Plumbing Song", which was a parody of Milli Vanilli's "Baby Don't Forget My Number" and "Blame It on the Rain". "Bedrock Anthem" included clips from the actual ''Flintstones'' cartoon and, after being a part of ''Alapalooza'', was also included in the compilation album ''The Essential "Weird Al" Yankovic''. It is a parody of " It's All About the Benjamins (Rock Remix)" by Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs and focuses on the narrator's obsession with his computer's hardware. Track listing # "It's All About the Pentiums" – 3:34 # "The Saga Begins" – 5:28 # "The Saga Begins" (Music video) Writing Yankovic spoke to Sean Combs personally on the phone to make sure that the parody would not emulate the 1996 Coolio incident. Smells Like Nirvana
"Smells Like Nirvana" is a song parody written and performed by American musician "Weird Al" Yankovic. A parody of Nirvana's song "Smells Like Teen Spirit", it was released as the lead single from Yankovic's ''Off the Deep End'' album in April 1992. "Smells Like Nirvana" was written during a three-year career low for Yankovic after the financial failure of his film '' UHF'', but captured the quickly-rising popularity of grunge and Nirvana's success. The song was written to ridicule the fact that many people could hardly understand Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain's lyrics in the original song. After being unable to contact Nirvana conventionally, Yankovic called Cobain while the band was on the set of ''Saturday Night Live'', where Cobain quickly gave permission to record the parody. Recording the song was a change for Yankovic and his band. Usually, the group were forced to record several overdubs. "Smells Like Nirvana", however, was relatively straightforward in its musical compositio ...
