Beli Manastir
Beli Manastir is a town in eastern Croatia. It is the principal town of the Croatian part of Baranja, located in the Osijek-Baranja County. Name The name means "white monastery" in Serbo-Croatian. Originally called Monoštor, the current name was adopted in 1923. It is also known as ''Pélmonostor'' in Hungarian, and ''Manoster'' in German. Other names formerly used for the town were: ''Pél'', ''Bell'', and ''Monostor''. All names are connected with monasteries that existed in history at this location. The first monastery was built in the 9th century during the rule of Slavic duke Kocelj but was later razed, and all that remained of it was ''pil'' (''obelisk'' in English), hence the later Hungarian name ''Pél'', which was a version of the Slavic word. History In the 9th century, this area was part of the Slavic Principality of Lower Pannonia and a Slavic monastery was situated here. The monastery was founded during the visit of Cyril and Methodius, who spread Christianity ...

Manastır Mosque, Istanbul
Manastır Mosque ( tr, Manastır Mescidi; also ''Mustafa Çavuş Mescidi'', where ''mescit'' is the Turkish word for a small mosque) is a former Eastern Orthodox church converted into a mosque by the Ottomans. Neither archeological excavations nor medieval sources have made it possible to find a satisfactory answer as to its original dedication as a church. It is however possible that the small building was part of the Byzantine monastery dedicated to the Holy Martyrs Menodora, Metrodora, and Nymphodora ( el, ), or an annex of the nunnery of Kyra Martha ( el, ). The edifice is a minor example of Byzantine architecture in Constantinople, and is important for historical reasons. Location The medieval structure lies in Istanbul, in the district of Fatih, in the neighborhood of Topkapı, on the south side of ''Turgut Özal Millet Caddesi'', about south east of the Topkapı Gate of the city walls. The building can be easily reached from the center by the T1 Tram. History The origi ...
