Man At The Top (TV Series)
''Man at the Top'' was a British kitchen sink drama television series that originally aired on ITV, lasting for 23 episodes between 1970 and 1972. The series depicted the character of Joe Lampton, the protagonist of John Braine's novels '' Room at the Top'' (1957) and ''Life at the Top'' (1962), and of the films based on those novels ('' Room at the Top'' (1959) and ''Life at the Top'' (1965)). In 1973, a spin-off film from the series, '' Man at the Top'', was released. John Braine
John Gerard Braine (13 April 1922 – 28 October 1986) was an English novelist. Braine is usually listed among the angry young men, a loosely defined group of English writers who emerged on the literary scene in the 1950s. Biography John Braine was born in the Westgate area of central Bradford, West Riding of Yorkshire. The family later moved to the suburb of Thackley on the northern edge of the city. Braine left St. Bede's Grammar School at 16 and worked in a shop, a laboratory and a factory before becoming, after the war, a librarian in Bingley, a small town up the Aire Valley and at Darton in 1954 where locals put his inattention down to his spending his time writing his first novel. Although he wrote 12 works of fiction, Braine is chiefly remembered today for his first novel, ''Room at the Top (novel), Room at the Top'' (1957). Avice Landone
Avice Landone (1 September 191012 June 1976) was an English actress who appeared in British television and film. She was born in Quetta, British India, and made her screen debut in the 1948 film '' My Brother Jonathon''. From 1961 she co-starred with Peggy Mount in the ITV sitcom '' Winning Widows''. Between 1970 and 1972 she played Margaret Brown in the television series '' Man at the Top''. She was married to the actor Bruno Barnabe (1905–1998). She retired from acting in 1972 and died in 1976, aged 65, from undisclosed causes. Katy Manning
Catherine Ann "Katy" Manning (born 14 October 1946) is an English-Australian actress, television presenter, voice artist and former model. Although she has made many appearances on both screen and stage, Manning is best known for her part as the companion Jo Grant in the BBC science fiction television series ''Doctor Who''. Manning initially played the role regularly from 1971 to 1973 but also reprised the role in the ''Doctor Who'' spin-off ''The Sarah Jane Adventures'' in 2010. Janet Key
Janet Key (10 July 1945 – 26 July 1992) was an English actress with a varied career in theatre, film and television from the late 1960s until her death. Career Key was born in Bath, Somerset, and trained at the nearby Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Her stage career included stints with the National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company, alongside touring and fringe productions.
