Jatiya Party (Ershad)
The Jatiya Party ( bn, জাতীয় পার্টি, translit=Jatiyo Party, lit=National Party) is a conservative, nationalist political party in Bangladesh and is currently the main opposition in the Jatiya Sangsad, against the Awami League. The current chairman of the party is Ghulam Muhammad Quader. On 3 January 2019, the party announced its decision to join the Bangladesh Awami League-led Grand Alliance after having been in opposition for the previous parliamentary term. However, the party backtracked the next day and announced that it intended to remain part of the opposition. Currently, it holds Rangpur out of Bangladesh's 12 city corporations. Roushan Ershad (born 19 July 1943) is a Jatiya Party (Ershad), Bangladesh Jatiya Party politician. She is the current Jatiya Sangsad member from Mymensingh-4 constituency and the incumbent Leader of the Opposition (Bangladesh), Leader of the Opposition in the 2018 Bangladeshi general election, 11th parliament. She is the Chief Patron of the Jatiya Party (Ershad) and the widow of former Bangladesh president Hussain Muhammad Ershad. Political Career As the First Lady during 1982–1990, Ershad was active in social welfare and in promoting the rights of women and children. She was the chief patron of the Bangladesh Jatiya Mohila Sangstha. In 1975, Ershad became the founder-president of the Sena Paribar Kalliyan Samity (Armed Forces Family Welfare Association). Motiur Rahman (Bangladeshi Politician)
Motiur Rahman (born 9 July 1942) is a Bangladesh Awami League politician who served as the Minister of Religious Affairs. Early life Rahman was born on 9 July 1942 in Akua, Mymensingh Sadar Upazila, Mymensingh District in the then Bengal Presidency, British India. He graduated from Akua Model Primary School in 1953. He joined Mymensingh Zilla School in 1957 and then went to Nokla High School. In 1961, he graduated from Ananda Mohan College and in 1964 he earned his undergraduate degree from the same college. In 1967, he graduated with a master's in zoology from the University of Dhaka. Career Rahman started teaching at Nandina College in Jamalpur District and than taught at the Nasirabad College in Mymensingh District. Lt. Gen. Hussain Muhammad Ershad ( bn, হুসেইন মুহাম্মদ এরশাদ; 1 February 1930 – 14 July 2019) was a Bangladeshi Army Chief politician who served as the President of Bangladesh from 1983 to 1990, a time many consider to have been a military dictatorship. He seized power as head of the army during a bloodless coup against President Abdus Sattar on 24 March 1982 (by imposing martial law and suspending the Constitution). He declared himself President in 1983, and subsequently won the controversial 1986 Bangladeshi presidential election. Despite claims to have legitimately won the 1986 election, many consider his regime as an era of military dictatorship.
