Maltese Player Of The Year
The Maltese Player of the Year Award is an annual award given to the player who is adjudged to have been the best of the year in Maltese football. The award has been presented since the 1954–55 season and the winner is chosen by a vote amongst the members of the players' trade union, the Professional Footballers' Association (MFA). Football In Malta
Football in Malta is run by the Malta Football Association and was introduced to Malta during British rule in the mid-19th century. The sport at the time was new to England, and was used as a means of entertainment for the soldiers stationed in Malta at the various barracks around Malta at the time. In 1863 a football association was formed which governed rules and regulations for this quickly changing sport, which was still in amateur competition stage and played in an un-scheduled format until 1909 when a league format was introduced. The association runs the national football team, as well as administering the semi-professional Maltese Football League and the Maltese Cup for club sides. Sliema ( mt, Tas-Sliema ) is a town located on the northeast coast of Malta in the Northern Harbour District. It is a major residential and commercial area and a centre for shopping, bars, dining, and café life. It is also the most densely populated town on the island. Lolly Borg
Emmanuel Borg, better known as Lolly Borg (23 October 1931 – 10 October 2020) was a Maltese football player and manager. He was the cousin of Lolly Debattista, another famous Maltese player, and he is currently regarded as one of the most representative players of Maltese football, as a one-club man he spent his whole career playing as a forward for Floriana. Career Player Club Borg made his debut on 1947, when he was just 16, coming from Floriana Ajax, a youth team that was annexed by Floriana. He spent his whole career as a player in the club, leading the team to 7 Premier League titles and 8 Maltese FA Trophies from 1947 to 1963. Valletta (, mt, il-Belt Valletta, ) is an administrative unit and capital of Malta. Located on the main island, between Marsamxett Harbour to the west and the Grand Harbour to the east, its population within administrative limits in 2014 was 6,444. Joe Cilia
Joseph Cilia (22 October 1937 – 5 August 2017) was a Maltese professional football player and manager. Career Joe Cilia's natural talent and passion as a footballer was evident from when he first kicked a ball. He quickly climbed the ranks and by the time he was nineteen, in 1957 he made his debut for the Malta national football team. and he was the youngest player in the now legendary team which played Malta's first international against mighty Austria. He became an automatic choice for the Malta XI, and Malta captain from 1959 to 1964. He was always captain for all the other teams he played with and is now considered to be one of the greatest centre-halves Malta has ever witnessed. His consistency, courage, composure and cunning made him much loved by his supporters, and respected by the opposition.
