Malta Handball Association
The Malta Handball Association is the governing body of handball in Malta. It is affiliated to the International Handball Federation (IHF), the European Handball Federation and the Malta Olympic Committee (MOC). It is also registered with the Malta Sports Council (MSC). The MHA promotes handball and beach handball on the islands and administers the competitions. Six clubs are currently registered, being Aloysians HC, Kavallieri HC, La Salle HC, Luxol HC, Phoenix HC and HMS HC. History The Malta Handball Association was founded in 1995, in 1999 the men's National team made its international debut in Cyprus during the first edition on the European Handball Federation Challenge Trophy. In the years 2003, 2009 and 2011, the Malta Handball Association organized the European Handball Federation Challenge Trophy. Handball
Handball (also known as team handball, European handball or Olympic handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. The goals are surrounded by a zone where only the defending goalkeeper is allowed; goals must be scored by throwing the ball from outside the zone or while "diving" into it. The sport is usually played indoors, but outdoor variants exist in the forms of field handball, Czech handball (which were more common in the past) and beach handball. European Handball Federation
The European Handball Federation (EHF) is the umbrella organisation for European handball. Founded on 17 November 1991, it is made of 50 member federations and two associated federations (England and Scotland), and is headquartered in Vienna, Austria. History EHF was founded on 17 November 1991 in Berlin, Germany, although the first EHF Congress convened on 5 June 1992 and assigned EHF's headquarters to Vienna, Austria from 1 September that year. In 2012 the EHF Office celebrated 20 years since it first opened its doors. In the subsequent years, the number of member countries has expanded from the initial 29 to its current number of 50, after Kosovo was granted full membership at the EHF Congress in Dublin, Ireland in September 2014. 2015 IHF Emerging Nations Championship
The 2015 IHF Emerging Nations Championship was the first edition of the IHF Emerging Nations Championship, organised by the International Handball Federation (IHF). The tournament was held in Pristina and Gjakova, Kosovo, from 20 to 26 June. A total of 16 nations played in the tournament: several European teams that did not qualify to the 2014 European Men's Handball Championship, plus Australia, Cameroon, China and Uruguay. 2017 IHF Emerging Nations Championship
The 2017 IHF Emerging Nations Handball Championship was the second edition of the IHF Emerging Nations Championship held in Bulgaria under the aegis of International Handball Federation. The tournament was held in two cities, Gabrovo and Veliko Tarnovo, from 12 to 18 June 2017. A total of sixteen countries participated in the tournament out of which 15 are European except China. Faroe Islands defended their title by defeating Turkey 26–25 in the final. 2019 IHF Emerging Nations Championship
The 2019 IHF Emerging Nations Handball Championship was the third edition of the IHF Emerging Nations Championship held in Georgia under the aegis of International Handball Federation from 7 to 16 June 2019. Georgia defeated Cuba in the final to win their first title and earned the right to compete at the Relegation Round of 2022 European Championship qualification. A total of twelve countries participated in the tournament. Venues The championship were played in Tbilisi, Georgia.
