Malta competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast, Australia from April 4 to April 15, 2018. Malta's team consisted of 25 athletes (15 men and 10 women) that competed in eight sports. Alexander Smyth (1765April 17, 1830) was an American lawyer, soldier, and politician from Virginia. Smyth served in the Virginia Senate, Virginia House of Delegates, United States House of Representatives and as a general during the War of 1812. Smyth County, Virginia, is named in his honor. Charlotte Wingfield (born 30 November 1994) is a Maltese sprinter who competes on behalf of the Republic of Malta. She competed at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics and 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships. She switched her allegiance from Great Britain in 2015 to represent Malta, her father's country of origin.
