Malminkartano Railway Station
Malminkartano railway station ( fi, Malminkartanon rautatieasema, sv, Malmgårds järnvägsstation) is a railway station on the Helsinki commuter rail network located in northern Helsinki, Finland. It is located approximately eleven kilometres to the north of Helsinki Central railway station. The station is served by circular lines I and P, between the stations of Kannelmäki and Myyrmäki. History While most of the Martinlaakso line was opened in June 1975, Malminkartano was not one of its original stations as the suburbs around it were still under heavy construction around the time. Unlike the other stations on the line which had long platforms, the ones at Malminkartano were built longer at , in anticipation of increases in passenger numbers, leading to a need to use Sm1/ Sm2 combos longer than four units. Helsinki commuter rail ( fi, Helsingin seudun lähijunaliikenne, sv, Huvudstadsregionens närtrafik) is a commuter rail system serving Greater Helsinki and the surrounding county of Uusimaa. The system is a joint venture between the regional transport authority HSL and national railway operator VR. The system operates on four railway lines and comprises 13 services, all of which terminate at Helsinki Central Station. Within the HSL region, tickets and timetables are fully integrated with other modes of public transport. Four services extend into the operational area of VR commuter rail – tickets issued by VR are needed for journeys further north from Zone D. Both parties discontinued onboard ticket sales in 2017. Helsinki City Transport or HKL (Finnish: ''Helsingin kaupungin liikennelaitos'', Swedish: ''Helsingfors stads trafikverk'', abbreviated to ''HST'') is the official city-owned public transport company in Helsinki, Finland. VR Class Sm2
The Sm2 is a class of Electric Multiple Unit, electric multiple units in use by VR Group, VR in Helsinki commuter rail, commuter traffic in the Helsinki area. Fifty Sm2 units were built between 1975 and 1981 by Valmet in Tampere. All Sm2 units were completely renovated between 2002 and 2011. Only the bodywork and the technics remained mostly untouched. Many of the changes are visible to the passengers, including a different type of seat, modern toilets and a new livery consisting of a white bodyside with a green lower band. Technical information Like the Sm1, each Sm2 unit consists of two cars: the Sm2 is the motored car of the multiple unit, while the other car, the driving trailer, is a part of the Eioc class. VR Class Sm1
The electric multiple unit Sm1 is a class of commuter train equipment that was in active use by VR from 1969–2016. Fifty Sm1 units were built between 1968 and 1973 at Valmet airplane factory in Tampere. They were put into use on the first electrified Finnish railway line between Helsinki and Kirkkonummi on January 26, 1969 with five units in operation. All Sm1s were thoroughly renovated between 1994 and 2000. Commercial service ended in April 2016. Technical information Each Sm1 unit consists of two cars: the Sm1 is the motored car of the multiple unit, while the other car, the driving trailer, is a part of the Eio class. Myyrmäki Railway Station
Myyrmäki (Finnish) or Myrbacka (Swedish) is a Helsinki commuter rail and bus station located in Vantaa, Finland. It is approximately north of Helsinki Central railway station. The station is served by circular lines I and P, and is between the stations of Malminkartano and Louhela. The station has two platforms, one for southbound and one for northbound trains. There is also a waiting room although ticket sales from the station have recently been discontinued. At the moment the nearest place for purchasing long distance tickets would be Pasila. The Myyrmanni Myyrmanni is a shopping center located at the Myyrmäki suburb of Vantaa, Finland. The center was built in the early 1990s and it has over 90 stores and 1,100 parking spaces.
