Douglas Malloch
Douglas Malloch (May 5, 1877 – July 2, 1938) was an American poet, short-story writer and Associate Editor of American Lumberman, a trade paper in Chicago. He was known as a "Lumberman's poet" both locally and nationally. He is noted for writing Round River Drive and "Be the Best of Whatever You Are" in addition to many other creations. He was commissioned to write new lyrics for the Michigan State Song, Michigan, My Michigan in 1902. Life and work Brother Malloch, as he was called, was born in Muskegon, Michigan which was known as a center of the lumbering industry. Edward Malloch
Edward Malloch (1801–1867) was a merchant and political figure in Upper Canada. Born in Scotland, Edward Malloch settled in Richmond about the time of the building of the Rideau Canal, shortly after the area was settled by members of the 100th Regiment of Foot. There he married Margaret Lindsey Hill of Amherstburg and daughter of Maria Hill. Edward and Margaret opened a general store which supplied the workers during the building of the Rideau Canal, where Malloch was a "merchant, politician and local land shark" buying at least in the Richmond area plus in Loyalist rights. They later moved to Bytown (now Ottawa) where he served with the Carleton militia, becoming captain in 1837. He represented Carleton in the Legislative Assembly of Upper Canada from 1834 to 1841 and in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada (Conservative) from 1848 to 1854. Elizabeth Gilmour Malloch (6 September 1910 – 29 September 2000) was a teacher, college principal and campaigner for equality within the Anglicanism, Episcopal Church. She was one of the first women to become a priest within the Episcopal Church (United States), Episcopal Church. Early life Malloch was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. She was the eldest of four children and the sole daughter of Jane Clarke and John Malloch. Her mother was a telegraphist in the Civil Service, while her father was an accountant. John McVicar Malloch ICD, was a South African-born Rhodesian bush pilot, gun-runner and ''sanctions-buster'' who flew in World War II and in various legal and illegal roles around Africa and the Middle East until the early 1980s. in 1978, he was the final recipient of the Rhodesian civil Independence Commemorative Decoration for services rendered to the country. John Napier Malloch (2 November 1877 – 26 December 1935) was an English footballer who played as an outside left for Dundee, The Wednesday, Barnsley and South Kirkby. Playing career Malloch left Dundee for Sheffield Wednesday in 1900 for a fee of £50. In April 1900 Malloch and fellow Dundee player John Low had been playing together in England and joined The Wednesday (Sheffield) on trial, with their prospective club, Brighton United in financial difficulties. Malloch officially joined Sheffield Wednesday in May. Whilst at the club he won the Football League in the 1902–03 and 1903–04 seasons and was still in the squad in the 1906–07 season when the ''Owls'' won the FA Cup, though he did not play in the competition that season. John Russell Malloch
John Russell Malloch (16 November 1875 – 1963) was a Scottish entomologist who specialised in Diptera and Hymenoptera. Malloch was born at Milton of Campsie in Stirlingshire, Scotland. His widowed father had one son, James Malloch (born 1873) when he married John Russell's mother, Margaret Stirling, on 30 August 1875. He and several others of his family worked at a textile factory in the area, but he spent his spare time collecting insects in the fields. His first published paper (1897) describes a type of migrating butterfly. In 1903 Malloch sold his extensive collection to the Glasgow Museum. He continued to collect, but began to concentrate on Diptera from that time forward. Before emigrating in 1910, he donated the remainder of his collection (13,000 flies) to the Royal Scottish Museum.
