Olympic Council of Malaysia, or commonly OCM or MOM, ( ms, Majlis Olimpik Malaysia, IOC code: MAS) is the National Olympic Committee representing Malaysia. It is also the body responsible for Malaysia's representation at the Commonwealth Games. History The body was founded in 1953 as the Federation of Malaya Olympic Council (FMOC). The FMOC received its recognition as the National Olympic Committee of the Federation of Malaya in May 1954. On 16 September 1963, Singapore and the British crown colonies of North Borneo and Sarawak joined the Federation of Malaya to form Malaysia. On 5 May 1964, the Singapore Olympic and Sports Council, the Sarawak Sports Olympic Committee and the Sabah Olympic Committee and the FMOC was merged to form the Olympic Council of Malaysia. Cheah Soon Kit
Datuk Cheah Soon Kit (Current name: / Birth name: ) (born 9 January 1968) is a former Malaysian badminton player and coach. Career Known for his amazing jumping smash, Soon Kit was one of the top doubles stars in the world in his heyday. He won the Olympic silver with Yap Kim Hock in Atlanta 1996. Before combining with Kim Hock, Soon Kit’s partner was Soo Beng Kiang and they won numerous international titles, including the 1992 and 1994 World Cup. He was also a vital member of the Malaysian squad that won the Thomas Cup for the first time in 25 years, in a 3-2 victory over Indonesia at the Stadium Negara in 1992. Coaching Soon Kit became the national women’s doubles coach from 2001 to 2007. He groomed Wong Pei Tty- Chin Eei Hui into the country’s top pair. Competition Lee competed for Korea in badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics in men's doubles with partner Yoo Yong-sung. They defeated José Antonio Crespo and Sergio Llopis of Spain in the first round and Luluk Hadiyanto and Alvent Yulianto of Indonesia in the second. In the quarterfinals, Lee and Yoo beat Choong Tan Fook and Lee Wan Wah of Malaysia 11-15, 15-11, 15-9. Flandy Limpele (born 9 February 1974) is an Indonesian former badminton player and coach. He competed in four Summer Olympic Games: Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, and Beijing 2008. Career Player A doubles specialist, at various times Limpele has focused on either men's doubles or mixed doubles during his long career in international badminton. His earliest appearances in the final rounds of major events came in mixed doubles in the mid-1990s. However, he first broke through internationally in men's doubles at the 1999 Korea Open with Eng Hian. Eng Hian (; born 17 May 1977) is a retired Indonesian badminton player. A men's doubles specialist, he won major international tournaments, most of them in partnership with Flandy Limpele, between 1999 and 2006. They earned a bronze medal in men's doubles at the 2004 Olympics in Athens. Their victories included the Korea (1999), Denmark (2000), Singapore (2002), and Japan Opens, and the Copenhagen Masters in 2000 and 2004. Hian and Limpele briefly represented England from 2001 until 2003 before returning to PBSI just in time for 2004 Summer Olympics. They were runners-up at the prestigious All-England Championships in 2002. Hian won the Dutch Open with Rian Sukmawan in 2006. Pramote Teerawiwatana ( th, ปราโมทย์ ธีระวิวัฒน์; 14 June 1967 – 4 October 2012) was a badminton player from Thailand. Career He played in six Southeast Asian Games, won the men's doubles gold in 1999 Brunei as his best results. Teerawiwatana was two times silver medalists at the Asian Games in 1998 Bangkok and 2002 Busan. He reached a career high as World No. 2 in the men's doubles event with two different partners. Teerawiwatana competed in four consecutives Olympic Games from 1992 to 2004 in the men's doubles event. Tesana Panvisvas (เทศนา พันธ์วิศวาส; born 14 March 1978) is a male badminton player from Thailand. He competed at the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games. In 2002 Asian Games, and won the men's doubles silver with Pramote Teerawiwatana. He and Teerawiwatana also won the men's doubles gold at the 1999 Southeast Asian Games. Career Panvisvas started playing badminton at the age of 12, and then he represented his country at the 1998 Asian Games. Kim Dong-moon (Hangul: 김동문, Hanja: 金東文; born 22 September 1975) is a retired South Korean badminton player who won major titles between the mid-1990s and the mid-2000s (decade), and widely regarded as one of finest men's doubles and mixed doubles players in badminton history. Kim captured the world attention when he unexpectedly winning the gold medal in the mixed doubles event with Gil Young-ah at the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics. On his path to greatness, he won gold medals both in men's and mixed doubles at the 1999 World Championships. Ha Tae-kwon (; born 30 April 1975) is a badminton player from South Korea. Born in Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do, Ha started his career in badminton with the recommendation of Kim Dong-moon in elementary school. He made his international debut in 1992, and won his first Grand Prix title at the 1995 Canada Open. Ha three times competed in Olympic Games in 1996, 2000 and 2004, won a bronze medal in 2000 and a gold medal in 2004.
