Makiivka Surrender Incident
The Makiivka surrender incident happened during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine in the village of Makiivka, Luhansk Oblast. Videos depict what appear to be at least ten Russian soldiers surrendering to four Ukrainian soldiers in Makiivka. Russian soldiers exit an outhouse one by one and lay facedown on the ground. Ukrainian soldiers appear relaxed with rifles pointed to the ground. Then an eleventh Russian soldier suddenly emerges and opens fire at the Ukrainians, catching them by surprise, a possible war crime of perfidy. In another video, there are about 12 dead visible on the footage. When and who shot the footage are unknown. On 19 November, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights stated that the United Nations are aware of the videos and are looking at them. Makiivka, Luhansk Oblast
Makiivka ( uk, Макіївка; russian: link=no, Макеевка) is a village in Svatove Raion (district) in Luhansk Oblast of eastern Ukraine, at about northwest of the centre of Luhansk city. It belongs to Krasnorichenske settlement ''hromada'', one of the ''hromada''s of Ukraine. The torture of Russian soldiers in Mala Rohan was an incident during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine that occurred in the village of Mala Rohan. The Torture and castration of a Ukrainian POW in Pryvillia was an incident during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine recorded on video and posted to Russian social media. It caused an international outcry and brought strong condemnation from a number of human rights bodies. The emergence of the video On July 28, 2022, a video was posted on a Russian Telegram page which showed a Russian soldier torturing and castrating a Ukrainian prisoner of war with a box cutter. The Ukrainian prisoner is bound and gagged. On the following day, an alleged continuation video was posted in Russian channels with possibly the same soldiers and the same prisoner. They taped the Ukrainian prisoner's mouth with black tape, placed his head in front of his cut genitals, and shot him in the head.
