''Makers of Men'' is a 1925 American silent war drama film directed by Forrest Sheldon and starring Kenneth MacDonald, Clara Horton and J.P. McGowan.Connelly p.381 Synopsis The easily disturbed Jimmy Jones suffers from a nervous disorder that provokes mockery about his cowardice from the fellow inhabitants of his small town even Lillian the woman he is in love with. When the First World War breaks out he volunteers for the Army. After serving in France along with an utterly fearless Sergeant, he returns home completely cured. William Lowery
William Lowery (July 22, 1885 – November 15, 1941) was an American silent film actor. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and was signed by the Thanhouser Company in 1914. Lowery's parents were actors, and he first acted at age 9. He enlisted in the Army in 1901 and fought during the Boxer uprising in China, achieving a commission as second lieutenant. He performed with a stock theater company in Los Angeles in 1906 before he began working in films. His first film was ''The Ten of Spades'' (1914) also starring William Garwood. He starred in about 60 films between 1914 and his retirement from film in 1927. He died on November 15, 1941, in Los Angeles. Ethan Allen Laidlaw (November 25, 1899 – May 25, 1963) was an American film actor. He appeared in more than 350 films and made more than 500 appearances on television, mainly uncredited in Westerns, between 1923 and 1962. Laidlaw was born in Butte, Montana, and died in Los Angeles, California. He was the son of Charles Porter Laidlaw and Nellie Laidlaw (née Otis). Laidlaw was a graduate of the University of Michigan and worked as an engineer before venturing into acting when he lived in Chicago. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Laidlaw was married to Mildred Carter, an actress. He died in May 1963 in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 63.
