Maida Vale ( ) is an affluent residential district consisting of the northern part of Paddington in West London, west of St John's Wood and south of Kilburn. It is also the name of its main road, on the continuous Edgware Road. Maida Vale is part of the City of Westminster, 3.1 miles (5.0 km) north-west of Charing Cross. It has many late Victorian and Edwardian blocks of mansion flats. The area is home to the BBC Maida Vale Studios. Name The name derives from a pub called ''The Maida'', the hanging board of which used to show a likeness of Sir John Stuart, under which was the legend ''Sir John Stuart, the hero of Maida''. General Sir John Stuart was made Count of Maida, a town in Calabria, by King Ferdinand IV of Naples and III of Sicily, after victory at the Battle of Maida in 1806. Maida Vale Studios
Maida Vale Studios is a complex of seven BBC sound studios, of which five are in regular use, in Delaware Road, Maida Vale, west London. It has been used to record thousands of classical music, popular music and drama sessions for BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 6 Music from 1946 to the present. On 30 October 2009, BBC Radio 1 celebrated ''75 Years of Maida Vale'' by exclusively playing 75 tracks recorded at the studios over the years. Snow Patrol played a live set from the studio with Fearne Cotton to celebrate 75 years of live music from the venue. In June 2018, the BBC announced the closure of the studios. In May 2020, Historic England designated it as a Grade II Listed Building. The BBC plans to vacate the premises by 2025. Maida Vale Tube Station
Maida Vale is a London Underground station in Maida Vale in inner north-west London. The station is on the Bakerloo line, between Kilburn Park and Warwick Avenue stations, and is in Travelcard Zone 2. The station is 'Grade II' listed building being of architectural and historic interest. In 2009 the station won a National Railway Heritage Award, in the London Regional category, for the successful modernisation of a historic station. History Maida Vale opened on 6 June 1915 on Bakerloo tube's extension from Paddington to Queen's Park 5 months after the extension. At the time, it was the first station to be entirely staffed by women. The women continued to work at the Maida Vale station until 1919 when servicemen returning from the war displaced them. The outbreak of World War II again opened up jobs for women. On 6 June 2015, the station celebrated its 100th anniversary as part of the 100 years of women in transport campaign. Edgware Road Tube schemes covers a number of proposals to build an underground railway in London, UK at the end of the 19th century. Each scheme envisaged building some form of rail tunnel along the Edgware Road in north-west London towards Victoria railway station. These proposals were made at a time of intensive railway construction, following projects such as City and South London Railway. Like several other proposals at the time, such as the City and Brixton Railway, none of the Edgware Road schemes came to fruition. Edgware Road and Victoria Railway The Edgware Road and Victoria Railway (ER&VR) was an early scheme for an underground railway under the Edgware Road. Maida Vale is an electoral ward of the City of Westminster. The population at the 2011 Census was 10,210. The ward covers the area south of Kilburn, north of Little Venice and west of St John's Wood, bordered by Maida Vale (A5), Shirland Road, Sutherland Avenue and Kilburn Park Road. The ward contains Paddington Recreation Ground, Lauderdale Road Spanish & Portuguese Synagogue, Saint Augustine's church and is home to the BBC Maida Vale Studios. The area is served by Maida Vale station on the Bakerloo line, in addition to several bus routes running through the locality. There are two primary schools, Essendine Primary School and St Augustine's Primary School, two secondary schools, St Augustine's CE High School and St. George's Catholic School, in addition to three GP surgeries located in the ward. Maida Vale, Western Australia
Maida Vale is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Kalamunda. Kalamunda Road runs through the suburb. Its first European settler was William Henry Mead, who arrived in 1873, buildt a home in the Ridge Hill area and established the orchard Orangedale. It was named in 1910 after a property name of another settler, WH McCormack. The name is believed to be derived from the eponymous area of West London., which is itself named after the 1806 Battle of Maida. Within the suburb there is a primary school (Maida Vale Primary School), a golf course, numerous parks/ovals, a Seventh Day Adventist church ground and caravan park, a child care centre, a heated swimming pool and several small shops including a BP Petrol station, BWS and a new IGA grocery store. The suburb contains the single set of traffic lights in the whole shire of Kalamunda, at the intersection of Kalamunda Rd, Hawtin Road and Gooseberry Hill Road. ''Maida Vale: The BBC Radio One Sessions'' is a compilation album by Van der Graaf Generator, containing eight songs from four different recording sessions at Maida Vale Studios for BBC Radio 1 in 1971, 1975 and 1976, three of which were Peel Sessions. It was released in June 1994 on Band of Joy Records. All tracks were re-released on the 2015 2CD BBC compilation ''After the Flood: At the BBC 1968-1977'', together with all the other BBC sessions, which survived in good audio quality. Seletar
Seletar is an area located in the north-east of Singapore. Its name can also refer to the Seletar Planning Area (as defined by the Urban Redevelopment Authority), situated in the North-East Region of Singapore. The place name was derived from the Malay subgroup who were indigenous to the area, the ''Orang Seletar''. It shares boundaries with the planning areas of Sengkang to the south, Punggol to the east, Yishun and Simpang to the west, as well as the Straits of Johor to the north. Formerly Royal Air Force Station Seletar Royal Air Force military airfield site, the area now houses a new S$60 million Seletar Aerospace Park that spans 140 hectares. The aerospace park houses industries specialising in aircraft maintenance and repair services. There are future plans to transform Seletar into one of the Singapore's regional centres, along with Jurong East, Tampines and Woodlands.
