Maduebibisi Iwe
Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe (born April 7, 1958) is a Nigerian academic, author, and professor of Food Science and Extrusion Technology. He is serving as the sixth substantive Vice-Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike. He assumed office on 1 March 2021. Early life and education Iwe studied at the University of Nigeria Nsukka where he obtained a Bachelor's (Honors) degree and Ph.D. in Food Science and Technology. He also obtained an MSc in Food Technology from the University of Ibadan. His Ph.D. research took him as far as the Wageningen Agricultural University, The Netherlands, through a World Bank/NUC sponsorship. Career Iwe took up a lectureship job at the University of Jos, Makurdi Campus (now University of Agriculture, Makurdi) in 1985 and rose to the rank of a Senior Lecturer in 1997, before joining the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike in 2000. The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, originally the Federal University of Agriculture, is a federal university in Umudike, Abia State, Nigeria was established as a specialized University by a Federal Government of Nigeria Decree No 48 of November 1992. It began formal activities in May 1993 with the appointment of the first Council and Vice-Chancellor Professor Placid C. Njoku on 27 May 1993, while other key officials of the University were appointed later. The first set of students were admitted into the institution during the 1993/94 academic year with a student population of 82. The nickname "Umudykes" or "U'dykers" is used for students, alumni, and sports teams of the university. The university was established in 1988, following the recommendations of a 1987 federal government White Paper on Higher Education curriculum and development in Nigeria. Tertiary Education Trust Fund, abbreviated as TETFUND, is a scheme established by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 2011 to disburse, manage, and monitor education tax to government-owned tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The TETFUND scheme was formed as a product of the Education Tax Act of 1993. This Act repeals the Education Tax Act Cap. E4, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and Education Tax Fund Act No. 17, 2003 and establishes the Tertiary Education Trust Fund charged with the responsibility for imposing, managing and disbursing the tax to public tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Before the establishment of the scheme in 2011, government-owned tertiary institutions were poorly funded. The scheme was designed to improve the management of funds disbursed to these institutions.
