Madonna Dell'Umiltà, Pistoia
The Basilica of Our Lady of Humility or Basilica della Madonna dell'Umiltà is a Renaissance architecture, Renaissance-style Roman catholic church building in Pistoia, Italy. History According to legend, on July 17, 1490, in the midst of the infighting between local families of the Panciatichi family, Panciatichi and Cancellieri family, Cancellieri, some people saw blood dripping from the forehead of a 14th-century fresco of the Madonna painted on a small chapel, which was interpreted as a sign that the Virgin Mary suffered from the bloodshed in the region. The miracle was confirmed by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pistoia, Bishop of Pistoia, Niccolò Pandolfini, and the important families of the city decided to build the sanctuary to honor the Virgin. The fresco is attributed by some to Bartolomeo Cristiani, but was perhaps due to a local painter from Pistoia. Francesco Morandini
Francesco Morandini (c. 1544–1597) was an Italian painter active in Florence, working in a Mannerist style. He was also called il Poppi after his native town. He was a pupil of Vincenzo Borghini, and later he was Giorgio Vasari's assistant for many years. Pietro Sorri (1558-1622) was an Italian painter active in Siena. Biography He first studied under Arcangelo Salimbeni (father of Ventura), and afterwards under Cavaliere Domenico Passignano, whom he accompanied to Venice. Gerino da Pistoia, also Gerino di Antonio Gerini, (1480–1529) was an Italian painter and designer of the Renaissance. Biography Not much is known about Gerino except through his works and a few lines by Giorgio Vasari. Gerino was a pupil of Pietro Perugino and trained in his workshop. He traveled to Rome with Pinturicchio. Vincenzo Meucci
Vincenzo Meucci (1694–1766) was an Italian painter of the late- Baroque period. Born in Florence. He was a pupil first of the painter Sebastiano Galeotti, then of Giovanni Gioseffo dal Sole in Bologna. He was patronized by the Marchese Giovan Battista Salimbeni of Siena, as well as the cardinals Alessandro Chigi Zondadari and Neri Corsini. His masterpiece was a commission by Anna Maria Luisa de' Medici, the last Medici resident of the Pitti Palace, who contracted him to fresco the cupola of the Basilica di San Lorenzo di Firenze with the ''Glory of Florentine Saints'' (1742). Giovanni Domenico Piastrini
Giovanni Domenico Piastrini (1678–1740) was an Italian painter of the Baroque period, active in Tuscany and Rome. Biography He learned first skills from his father, Francesco Maria, who had painted in the Annunziata and San Lorenzo churches of Florence.
