Madani Girls School is an Islamic independent secondary school in Whitechapel, London Borough of Tower Hamlets, East London. It also operates a college and alimah programme. The school opened in September 1991. Building History The main (southern) school building was originally occupied by Myrdle Street Central School. It was designed in 1905 by Thomas Jerram Bailey,Cherry, Bridget, O'Brien, Charles and Pevsner, Nicholas (2005''Pevsner Architectural Guides: Buildings of England, London: East Vol 5''Yale University Press, (p. 439) the Architect of the Education Department of the London County Council. Myrdle Street was one of the first of the LCC's "central schools" that offered higher than elementary education. The building is described in the Pevsner Architectural Guide for London East as a "unique, outstanding design" featuring two semicircular staircase towers with copper domes. Morris Harold Davis (7 November 1894 – 15 March 1985) was a British politician, who also served as President of the Federation of Synagogues. Biography Born in St George's-in-the-East, in the East End of London, Davis served an apprenticeship as a tailor, then in 1921 became the manager of the Brown Bear pub, which was owned by his father. He joined the Labour Party, and in 1921 was elected as an alderman on Stepney Metropolitan Borough Council. He also stood for Whitechapel and St George's at the 1922 London County Council election, missing out on election by 87 votes, winning the seat easily in 1925.
