Madagascar National Basketball Team
The Madagascar national basketball team is the national basketball team representing Madagascar. It is administrated by the Fédération Malagasy de Basket-Ball ''(Madagascar Basketball Federation)''. Its biggest success has been the 9th place at the FIBA Africa Championship 1972 where Madagascar surprisingly finished ahead of team Côte d'Ivoire and team Nigeria. Madagascar was chosen as host of the FIBA Africa Championship 2011. The country received the bid from Côte d'Ivoire where the event could not take place because of instabilities after the civil war. Madagascar's automatic qualification is only the 3rd time in its history. Its last appearance at Africa's most prestigious basketball event was in 2003. The Tunisian national basketball team ( ar, منتخب تونس لكرة السلة), nicknamed ''Les Aigles de Carthage (The Eagles of Carthage or The Carthage Eagles)'', is the national basketball team of Tunisia. The team is governed by the Tunisia Basketball Federation (FTBB). Elly Randriamampionona (born 20 July 1997) is a Malagasy basketball player for COSPN on loan from GNBC and for . Standing at , he plays as shooting guard. Career Randriamampionona started playing at a young age with Sporting Club Antsiranana before joining ASCB Boeny in 2014. In 2017, he won the Malagasy N1A and the President's Cup. Gendarmerie Nationale Basketball Club, commonly known as GNBC, is a Malagasy basketball club based in Antsirabe, Vakinankaratra. The team plays in the Malagasy N1A and played in the inaugural season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). Established in 2012, the team has won its national championship twice. History The public sports institution GNBC was established in 2012. In September 2019, GNBC grabbed the N1A title after edging COSPN in the final. As national champions, GNBC played in the first round of the qualifying tournament of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). In the first round, the team finished second in its group and advanced to the second round. On 21 December 2019, GNBC qualified for the inaugural BAL season, after surprisingly beating Ferroviário Maputo in the semi-finals.
